First Time for This

The pics of this Roof are of a roof we cleaned last week. The owner called me out for an estimate and explained that when the house was built the roofer ran short of shingles, and had to run get some in order to finish the job. He said that he think the roofer did not get the shingles that have the coating on it to prevent the mold and mildew. He said he paid extra for this type of shingle. The house is 10 years old and shaded by a lot of trees. Total square footage of the house is 5680.

Not a spec of mold and mildew anywhere on the roof except what you see in the pic.

The one circular spot at the top of the roof was caused by a roofer that was out to do a repair on the other side of that circular spot. The owner asked the roofer to clean a small round solar thingymabob (visible in a couple of the pics) while he was up there using some industrial strength window cleaner??. After cleaning it (the solar thingymabob) he sprayed some on the roof, at the owners request, to see what it would do. A couple days later the circular clean spot appeared.

Nice job Doug!

The homeowner had it and he wouldn't tell me. Said they have to jump through hoops to get it. I am still trying though. Believe me I am still trying.

Did it rain after he cleaned the window? There are chems that will release the algae and rain will wash it off. Could it have been ammonia? Also, some dish liquids have peroxide if he used the old dawn dish liquid recipe, but that is a long-shot.

Offer to buy another gallon for the homeowner if they tell you what it was.
Tell them you're pretty well connected with the window cleaning industry - no hoops for you.
