Had some 12 volt burner problems, found out it was something hardly ever checked.

The 12 volt system had been working great for a long time but recently I replaced the pressure switch and the thermostat but once in a while the burner would stop working.

I had a local shop check it out and they could not find anything wrong so I started looking at everything I could find.

I had the Interstate battery in the hot water rig since it was new over 8 years ago and I bought a replacement battery for it so when the battery went bad I could just change it out.

The positive terminal connector had some corrosion on it so I decided to take the connectors off and clean them up, maybe that could be part of the problem.

When I was loosening the positive terminal connector I noticed the terminal moving a lot, found out that it was loose in the battery and probably the cause of the burner not working all the time.

I cleaned up the connectors and put the new battery in and used it last nite for about 7 hours straight and no problem and no more burner turning off during the job unless when letting go of the trigger.

I had never seen a battery terminal loose like that, not sure what happened or what caused it but I put a foam cushion in the battery box under the battery to help with the bumps in the road in case that was part of the cause.

You got 8 years out of a battery? Congrats..... I'll get maybe two years if lucky! I have seen that happen before on a truck though. It'd fire itself up run for awhile and then shut down because the battery wasn't keeping enough power to run all the computer stuff.

Batteries are wierd like that I have purchased brand new ones that had a bad cell, but only some of the time. It was moving around internaly and causing issues from time to time.

The weird thing is that the battery is still working to start the machine so I might try to use it with some 12 volt pumps, maybe it will work a while longer.
