What's the difference between the black one and the red/white one?

Yep color...The new cap has the charcoal filter epa junk. If you fill it too much and get it wet it wont breathe properly and the engine will shut down. If you take the cap off and let it dry out in the sun for a day or two usually that will fix it or you have to get a new one. Moral of the story, don't fill your tank all the way.
