Hood caulking

Hey guys. I talked to a restaurant owner today that was made at his last hood cleaner for blasting portions of sealant out of the seems of the hood. He said an inspector told him the seems needed to be sealed and to call back the hood cleaner to do it. This hood cleaner does not want fix it for the customer.

Is there special high temp cauking for these hood seems? How do I find out what needs to be done so I can do it correctly. I thought about contacting the hood manufacturer but, they dont usually want to talk to you unless your a distributer. It seems like a simple enough job. I'd just like to know for sure.

Yes that would be great. Any info on products and process is helpful.

Mark,
We just added a high temp caulk to our product line at Delux. I can get you more information tomorrow when I get into the office. Be happy to give you a call about it if that is OK or you can call me.

Mike please call me too, I would like to talk yo you about your caulk. I would also like to see pictures of your caulk and, if possible, pictures of you using your caulk to fill some cracks. Thank you.

Matt you preffer black Caulk, Right?

I can tell you if you are not a regular caulker that you can really mess things up trying to learn on the fly.

Best heat resistant caulk for the jobs I have used before.

Caulking a bead is best that does not have to be fingered out, but you have to make sure it is bonded on both sides. Clean and dry before you caulk.

Ron I am a huge fan of black caulk, I have always felt that it gets harder than the white caulk and seems to fill the gaps much better. I know that when I need to fill a really big crack I turn to black caulk.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone with white caulk, but but in my humble opinion black caulk never lets me down and unfortunately I have run in to too many white caulks that just don't satisfy my needs.

I have been told there is a lot of Black caulk in the Hoodz, where
white cauld should never go,unless it is very strong almost bullet proof
white caulk. The big cracks I have seen associiated with black caulk in the Hoodz
looks like they have tried white caulk ,but realized black caulk is what they really need
for their purpose. Matt is very knowledgable in this research.

Wow, you guys are a clever bunch of caulk suckers.

Opps, was that to much

I just picked up some caulk yesterday and decided to get the super size tube. I'm extra sore today though, it was just too much caulk to work with at one time. My guys were like, OMG look how big that caulk is. Its also tough to get a steady bead withe the super caulk, squeeze too hard and that sucker will make an aweful mess.

Here is some more information about the caulk.

The regular caulk (-80 to 450 degrees) is available in the following colors:
Clear
White
Alumuminum
Black

The high tempature caulk (600 degrees) is in Red only.

In response to Matt, "That's what she said"

I am laughing right now. Thanks micheal for the info. I guess 450 degrees is enough since the detection links are generally 450-500. No special application process I guess.

Is there a caulk video????

I can't find the right emotiocon !

Caulking is a real art. Everyone can caulk, but not all can really caulk.

Many variables such as the cutting of the tube, the angle which you hold it, the pressure that you use to squeeze it out, if there are air pockets in it that explode out and leave a mess and then being able to restart the caulk bead...

I used to make a side business with all the cabinet installers. They came around to hire me out from my Grandpa after they installed the cabinets and needed a good caulk bead.

Glazing...now thats a lost art...

So I whipped out my caulk so I could show you guys but it has been a long time since I have actually seen it. Under close examination my caulk was old a shriveled and actually had some grey around it.

So I convinced my younger brother to let me get a picture of his caulk. You will notice from the picture that it is a strong caulk and he can barely fit his whole hand around it.
