Hose reel ratings

I am looking at some larger reels with 1000 and 2000 psi ratings. Since the water portion of the reel is only the pipe and the swivel is there any reason I should be concerned with these low ratings as long as I use a high enough rated swivel?

If that is all the pressure you are running, typically schedule 40 steel pipe is rated sufficiently to handle it.

It depends on what the pipe is rated at. If it is schedule 40, it is likely to fail sooner, rather then later.

For longer life of the reel make sure the center is stainless steel. To many times just as the reel is getting some age on it and paying for itself wham a leak from the pipe inside. Those are fun to change out start out with stainless.

What reel has a stainless inner pipe with an actual stainless weld at the tee for the hose connection? I think none. I heard this was the case and found out first hand. For this reason I do not run roof soap through any reel.

I have never saw one. They may be stainless (so what, for chlorine use), but the WELD never is, and the Chlorine attacks the weld.
The result " Ruined trucks and trailers! Our roof cleaning trucks have not used hose reels for nearly 5 years now, and we sleep much better at night. No more pressure and flow loss, no more leaking manifolds and swivels, and the ruined equipment that comes with it.

One day, some company will come up with a roof cleaning hose reel with a schedule 40 PVC manifold perhaps ?
Until then, we will never use any kind of metal hose reel again.

I forgot to come back and report my findings with this. Apparently the lower rated superswivels won't turn at full pressure. It turns just fine with no pressure, but I can't get it to turn at all at full pressure.

I wonder if there is a kit I can change out on the swivel or if I will just have to buy a higher rated one?

A K7 flow type unloader may fix your problem. I have heard of issues using flow type unloaders with long runs of hose though.
