How binding are you contracts?

My standard agreement is basically an official agreement on price and work to be done. No one year contracts or other time details as of yet. Two reasons, dont want to scare them, I use comcast and i am not under contract but why would I got anywhere, they are the best service for a reasonable (well...) price. I strive to be the same in my industry and market. Second, seems like a time frame implies expiration.

Wondering if I am missing something though. These are restaurants btw.

I get signatures about half of the time for residential.
When I started getting a signature, I had a job the a customer signed for. Before we got to it he called and said he decided to go with someone else. I later a guilt trip on him and said that it was fine. He called back a couple of days later and asked us to do the work. He went to bible study at his church and the topic was honoring your commitments.

Im not sure what your asking here Daniel but most contracts are not air tight, even those reviewed by an attorney..The other issue is sometimes in fact most times it may not be beneficial to pursue if your contract was violated..

The one thing i have found that is almost ironclad is having a signed invoice by a representative at the property your working proving you performed the work.. I went through this years ago when a large national hotel chain decided they just didnt feel like paying me and when i threatened court action they requested proof i di the work..I showed them a signed dated invoice and they blinked..A check was sent..

Daniel I don't have a signed contract with any of the restaurants I clean. The quality of service I provide builds the relationship I need to have with my clients to keep them calling back. But like Mike Rego said have your clients sign an invoice just in case. Honesty, Quality Service and show up when you say your going to show up and even do a little extra something from time to time. Once you earn their respect your in like Flynn! And remember, don't ever slack in quality of your service.

Great advise. My hood cleaning agreement states I will be the cleaner for the next job unless 30 days in writing is given. If they hire someone else then so be it. I know I give quality work so if a price shopper finds a discount cleaner, I say they are meant for each other.

You must have a policies and proceedures page as well to cover your azz including a payment schedule. Ours is two pages long and must be signed along with the contract for every project.

I paid my lawyer for some fancy air tight contract. And every time I try sending it over to a client they cross out all the BS he wrote about how my company is not liable for anything! haha

So I end up just having a signed agreement that is 30 day notice on both ends like Ron said. Lesson learned.

Yep. Reality.
