Fence Renew

New member
Hi All! I've been selling and managing fence installations for about a year and a half. In January I decided to go out on my own. Long story short, I bought a fence restoration/staining company called Fence Renew. i had no practical experience or knowledge of fence restoration prior to this. I now have walnut hair, cedar tone skin, 6 pair of multi-stain color shorts, a dozen bleach and stain decorated t-shirts, and a truck covered with enough overspray to stain a small fence.

All that said, I couldn't be happier. I have SO much to learn, but I love standing back at the end of the day and seeing the transformation of a renewed fence, and the smile on a happy customer's face.

Jim,

Nice to have you aboard! Nothing is better than "quality of life" and it sounds like that is where you are at. I have been in wood restoration for a long time and still love every minute of it. Restoration puts a smile on customer's faces and that is a great thing to take away from a job well done. For the record, there is another Jim here that has WAY more than a dozen bleached shirts but sounds like you are on your way!

Welcome Jim nice to have another wood guy on PWI.

What stain are you buying in Dallas?

I use Wood Defender. I have one of their small portable staining machines and I've had good success so far. I've also used Ready Seal, but my current wood supplier carries Wood Defender. What do you use?

My biggest problem is finding bulk bleach and the proper bleach/water/soap ratio. I usually get 8.25% SH (at $3.50 per gallon) and mix 6-8 gallons bleach, 2-3 gallons water, and a couple ounces dish soap to make 10+ gallons. Any suggestions where to find bleach wholesale and in bulk?

We use the Baker's Gray Away from up in Plano we've been their distributor and applicator for the last 20 yrs in Houston 15 yrs for me. I go through a lot of it with 200 gallon fences lately. I need to find some good help to help me catch up with a crazy backlog! We do cedar houses arbors decks all of it exterior. How's the price on WD ? Did you get the training classes they offer for free if you buy a trailer? I hear the trailers are pricey?

I get my 12% from a chemical company local here in the chemical city of Pasadena AKA Stinkadena for $2.50. I can ask my stain supplier a place for 12% up your way.
