Hydrotek cat pump

Wish I had one of the new hydroteks with easier pump head access!!!

We've got vibration and pressure fluctuation (probably debris from pulling from hydrants)... Only problem is the cat pump head faces the generator with no access to valve caps!

I took it off, now to investigate the valves... Thanks for your time Russ J - i'll be calling again soon!

Just my opinion, but that is a REALLY boneheaded way to mount a pump. I always try and look at the serviceability of pressure washers before I puchase them. Poor serviceability means lost time. Just my opinion.

I agree... This was the first machine I bought - didn't know any better! It's always been a pain to work on.

Serviceability is key now - this is taking time out of other stuff I need to be doing!

This is the first pump I've taken apart... Got a general pump with 2600 hours on it to do next. Should be a breeze compared to this monstrosity!

It would be nice if the company that put that rig together had an adapter plate to mount the engine and pump in a slightly different manner so the pump is easier to work on, looks like there is room there for a different arrangement.

I hope thats your problem i had a hydrotek with a 660 series on it at 1500 hours the head was washed out as they say.Cat stepped up and sent me a new head and all new check valves. They said this should happen until the 3000 hr.Good Luck

Hal, I found a couple of broken high pressure valves and some of the seals had gone on the low pressure valves.

What issues were you having that led you to find out what your problem was?

I can have my pump off in about 10 minutes and change the belts in about 2 to 3 minutes. Then again I modified my machine myself in order to do this.

If a cat pump washes out normally the orings are completely gone. That has been my experience. Also if the disc wares into the plastic cage, it can hold the disc open and keep it from seating which will cause it to pulsate. It looks like you have that going on one of the check valves.

The same issues you were have i have ocd about my washer i want the water coming out smooth with no pulsation or vibration i could see the line shaking on the ground it was so bad.Hopefully you found your problems with those valves looks like they have been in there for a while.I hope that is all it is cause like the other poster said cat is really proud of there stuff, but great quality.

You may have had a small air leak that started the issue or starved it of water. I have had the same type of problems when i ran cat pumps when I switched to the GP I never had the issue again. I found the check valves to hold up a bit better for what I do.

If you have room you should be able to swap the shaft on that pump to make it a rt hand shaft and have the head pointing out.

Here are the pictures for you Steven, I apologize for the delay in posting them. I'm working today even just to get caught up with work.

Where's your Darwin cage? lol

(thanks again Ceta - great work. Now in order to work on our machines in the field we have to spend an hour taking cages apart first. Meanwhile, the idiots whose fingers have been spared by your cage have been spared their fingers. Now they are free to use them to do something even more stupid later on to our customer's property so we have to pay for it. There's a reason God put dangerous things out there, it is to take the fingers of those who would use them to later destroy someone else's property. lol)

I don't need no stinking Darwin cage lol. I'll put one on once I get in trouble for not having one on though. I do have the $5 battery cutoff switch though from Harbor Freight on my machine though. It's extra piece of mind going down the road knowing nothing can short out and catch fire.

It's not the same pump and motor that came with the machine when I 1st bought it. It came originally with a 15HP Kohler and General 4040 Pump. I blew both of them up. I got tired of dealing with gear drives so I modified it finally when I went with the 18HP Vanguard and TS2021 Pump.
