I have bought my last Cox Reel

We've bought a lot of Cox Reels, a lot of manuals and three electrics.

In 2010 and 2011 we bought three electric reels from Hosepower USA.

They advertise a 2 year warranty.

I bought one of them Jan 31, 2011 for Tom in Tucson and delivered it to him in July.

He has had it sitting till just recently when he finally installed it on his trailer.

The thing won't unwind. It is bound up at the motor. He has been unable to use it at all.

The warranty is up today.

I spent all day on the phone back and forth with them yesterday while Hosepower looked for a phantom PO number for them that they can't find.

I faxed my receipt and sent them the serial number.

According to them the unit was built (as was my other two) in 2007. They are claiming their warranty is only good for two years from the date of manufacture.

I've never heard such a ridiculous thing. If that is right, I bought three reels that were already a year out of warranty when I purchased them brand new and still in the crate.

I spoke to Christie and her boss John and got the same BS from both of them.

I would suggest that you distributors decline any reels that didn't just come off the assembly line right before you deliver them to your customer.

I, personally, will never buy another reel of theirs again.

That's a terrible way to do business. You might consider Summit next time. Most of their reels are built to order...sometimes it takes a few days to bust them out, but they haven't been sitting around on a shelf using up the warranty period.

There are some threads from years ago talking about all kinds of problems from that brand of hose reel.

I bought a used one from a contractor last year, it is a manual hose reel and really don't like it at all but it works so I will keep on using it until I have a replacement for it.

Hannay on the other hand is a Great Hose Reel.

My electric reel sits on the trailer outside, in the rain, in the hot Texas sun and no problems except had to clean up the wiring connectors from rust last year.

I bought this electric hose reel used about 7 years ago and have been using it since.

The frame is holding up great and have changed out the super swivel one time.

I will be posting a picture of a 1" fire truck hose reel later on this weekend that I will be selling, it is just too big for my trailer and box truck, I think the capacity is about 250' or 300' of 1" hose and it is electric. It is just like the kind that Jeremy was selling last year or the year before. It is about 30" x 30".

One of the biggest problems I have with the Cox reel that I have is that the hose connects almost in the middle of the reel so to make a lot fit, it almost has to be wound up perfectly or it all does not fit where most other hose reels have the hose connecting almost at one side or the other and winding it up is easier to do since the bunched up part is on the side, instead of in the middle where you have to roll up one side some then the other side until they are even then roll up the whole thing when you have a lot of hose on that reel.

wow didnt know that we have two ,going to check to see where i sit on this
