Local Equipment Pricing

I have tried my best to buy locally when I can but yesterday I gave up.

I was quoted a price of over $750 for a 20" GP Hammerhead and over $900 for a 20" BE Whirl-A-Way. Then they try to talk me into the Mi-T-M surface cleaner because they make them for everyone else anyway...

I explained how out of line their pricing was with internet prices and they just shrugged. This is a BIG supplier. They have a warehouse bigger than a lot of the online guys. Good luck to them I suppose. I will be ordering something from a vendor here on the boards.

Anybody ever found a good local shop?

All of the local shops here are total ripoffs. Unless I am in a bind and need something that day I just prepare myself to get screwed. I rather sit and home and use the point and click method anyways. Plus all of the vendors here are great, their customer service is outstanding and their prices are reasonable too.

In a pinch the guys here are very good. Only downfall is the hefty overhead they push onto the customer. When ya have time order online!

I agree with both Vince and Chris.

I'd like to support local business', but their prices are hugely high and can't be pushed on to our customers - market competition doesn't allow for it. So, while saving money by buying online we don't derive any additional profit from the savings.

Brad, I see that you're new to PWI and so I'd like to welcome you. Support the vendors that participate here and I promise that you won't be sorry. They're simply the best!

My old distributor in Leesburg Florida had had a pretty reasonable prices. Not that much more than the online dealers, and their labor rates were also very reasonable. Here in North Carolina though, the local supplier is not only extremely overpriced, they are also full of crap. The owner there tried to sell me a 13 horse pressure washing skid with a TS2021 pump, and told me that the machine was 5.5 GPM 3500 PSI, even with the little GX390 engine. He wanted $2600 for it. He also told me that if I buy his "high draw injector" I would be able to clean a roof just by down streaming.

I would've laughed at him.... You can build one for way less than that.
Only way to downstream roofs is with dual injectors and that guy probably would say that wouldn't work.

$750 ???that's twice retail!!!

Buy it online, don't waste time. I get my stuff in 1 day from Russ at southside equipment. And if you ever have a problem it's solved just as fast. Why would you want to deal with someone that's # 1. trying to rip you off and # 2. they don't even know what they are talking about. It's hard enough trying to start a business, you don't need to be paying some twice the retail, shuysters mortgage too!

I can gets hoses, swivels, and certain nozzles for as cheap local as I can find online. The minute I go to anything burner related, new pumps, or unloaders it generally goes to atleast double online, if not triple some times. 4 main stores in town, 2 I will only go for last resort, other 2 are more car wash based and have competitive pricing on certain things. Hoses I found a local hose store that gives me 2 wire 6000 psi for $130 for 100ft with all the fixings. I do my best to buy local, but I am not spending $1000 on a TS2021 pump.
