It's been that way here in FL for Years. I smoke and now I don't even like being in a resturaunt eating if someone is smoking.( Been in some states where it is still ok.) Anyone remember when you could still smoke on an airplane? I can't for the life of me (NOW) see how people who didn't smoke could put up with it.

I always liked the law. When I wasn't a smoker I was appalled because my non-smoking did not invade your personal space.

It is that way here for the restaurants and office buildings but not in the bars and niteclubs, they are fighting that with all they have.

I can deal with it but don't want my son to be in those situations, sometimes he has to have breathing treatments, he does not have asthma but is borderline so when the weather or seasons change we have to put him on the breathing machine a lot.

I quit about a month ago ,23 years, but i have never liked smoking in a place with people around just out of respect, children really dont need to be around that mess my children 4 out of six has some breathing problems as well so even though i was a smoker i didnt smoke at the house,I think this law is a very good law and i feel it should be a nation wide thing period. You know the chemicals they put in cigs. is the same chem we use to clean,sh,go figure right.it is just bad stuff.Plus the cig. companies uped the nic. content by 10%.

We have a very restrictive no smoking law in our local community. Private clubs only. I'm an anti-smoker but pro property rights person. If it's a govt building and you have to have access then it should be no smoking. You don't have a choice on entry. Period.

If it's private property such a bar or restaurant they should have the option of one of three signs on the front door. 1. No Smoking, 2. Smoking Allowed or 3. We provide an area for both. Then the person can make the decision to enter. If it says smoking allowed and you enter and you don't like the smoke beat it. I hate sounding like I'm promoting smoking but it's gonna get to the point where you can't smoke in your own yard.

Bars in NY city fought it like it was doomsday. Ended up business rose over 12% after a month and has been that way since. So it was good for business in the long run. Smoking was keeping non-smokers away.

Only 24% of the public smoke in our state which is high nationwide. When you think of it in the long run they have gone to a lot of trouble to accommodate only 1 out of every 4 people with a bad habit.

What you don't see is the $$ making opportunity when I started in business the ban was taking effect, lots of cig buts in bushes and what not, now the GM's of all my restaurants were having the hired help get the butts up every day, but the "deep cleaning" such as in the bushes and what not were being overlooked by everyone including the landscapers, so we put together some advertising and sent it to all the restaurants and got on a schedule for cleaning the bushes and landscaping. Extra $40.00 per visit.

Just an update the new law also comes with fines $200.00 a pop for the restaurant owner then after 3 times a shut down and $50.00 for the patron and a sitation from a police officer.Money racket!!! Some are changing there establishments to private clubs to keep the smokers.Good loop hole.
