Hey PWI, I'm not a tech guy by any means but this sounds like a good deal...I'm not a big fan of HF stores but would like to know if anyone have any experience with this engines. Those are clone engines (420CC/14HP) priced at $350...I'm thinking to swap my 13HP Briggs/Stratton on my reclaiming system that gives me some troubles (hard start, carb clogging...). It looks like it's cheaper to replace it with a new Predator engine than fix the old one...Any input will be appreciate. Thanks...

Tony S. was using those HF engines for a while, not sure if he still does.

Not sure if that was the brand they were putting on the clones at the time.

For a good tuneup at my small engine mechanic it is usually about $60 to $100 depending on what is needed, if that is still a good engine, I would get it tuned up but that is just me to save some money. If there are other serious issues with it then maybe a new one with the extended warranty might not be a bad idea.

Tony might post here with his experience with those engines.

I blew a rid in one of my Honda engines several months back and replaced it with a Predictor from HF. Its not a bad engine. The cons are: It runs through gas faster than the Honda. Think its got a smaller tank. Don't fill the gas all the way to the top or it chokes out and stalls. At times I've had a hard time starting it and other times it cranks right up. Weird. Get the replacement plan for a couple bucks more. They will swap it right out for a new one if you have issues, no questions asked.

Igor, the engines themselves are good. The carbs are ok and completely interchangeable with Honda as are many of the parts.

The secret to keeping them going for a long time is to take everything that has a bolt in it and put some loctite on it as soon as you take it out of the box.

Then wrap every electrical connection. Even better, cut them all out and replace them yourself.

The biggest problem I've had with these HF engines is parts falling off of it. The pull cord is junk too.

But if you take 30 minutes when you first get it to "bulletproof" it they go a long ways.
