Welcome......What kind of experience do you have? Equipment? Tell us A little about what you want to learn and what type of work you expect to be doing.....

Hey thanks for the welcome! We are glad to be members, well we are looking at two units, right now phil at AAA pressure washers has a hydrotek unit on a trailer, also we have been looking at some of the northern units, we are looking to get a 2 gun system... any thoughts? Well we are hoping to do commercial work, or anything we can to start out with, we are looking at a 20" surface cleaner, as well as a reclamation system to "be green" and use it as a selling point for schools... We have been trying to do all the research we can, we have been reading and trying to learn as much as we can, we figure if we are not able to land any serious contracts here at the start we well do demos and small jobs till we get one.... We are students, and are used to asking questions from the ones that know, so we are not trying to be annoying, just learning, Thanks for the help...

Welcome. I don't have any advice about equipment, but I do have some about business.

We clean and change air fillters. We have two main competitors in town. We found out what they charged and tried to stay within 10% or so of that. After that, it's all about who does a better job. We get between $4.25 and $8.00 per filter based on the size of the job.

I just came back a few weeks ago from meeting with two filter manufacturers in Tennessee. Filter services there used to charge the same as here. About 9 years ago a yahoo came in and brought some polyester junk from China that was used in making cushions, called them filters and since he was buying them by the truckload they cost him about 40 cents each. So he lowered his installed price to $2.00. He did many larger accounts for $1.25! He got a huge portion of the market.

Three years later he was bankrupt. He found out the hard way that you can't pay guys, have them driving all over with trucks, pay workers comp and taxes for $1.00 per filter.:(

But in the process of learning his lesson, he completely ruined the market.

Now EVERYBODY wants filters installed for $1.25 and they can't understand that a TRUE air conditioning filter COSTS THE CONTRACTOR MORE THAN TWICE THAT!

The moral of the story is do a good job and realize one simple rule of business----if you think you can beat everyone's price----especially with less experience than them....you're not only setting yourself up for failure, but you might contribute to causing others to fail too.

There's my 2 cents.

Welcome :)

Venting a little there Tony..

Tell us how you really feel!

LOL, Tony is just stating the obvious. if we can prevent even on guy from charging the wrong price we are helping the industry.

I have helped this fellow, to bad he missed the roundtable.

AAA will get him the right equipment and we will help him charge the right amount.

Make sure your at least 5.5 and 3500 PSI
