Got a call today from a company who is marketing vinyl covers for phone books. Although I know the phone book market is a dying venue (we pulled our ads about 3 years ago), this guy was selling 2x4 in space on the front cover for $189 with a distribution of 20,000 through realtors and stores (free take one kind of set out). I normally wouldnt entertain this, but the thought of $189 for 20k distribution through whatever form of venue doesnt sound half bad. I figure if I get 2-3 calls off of it, it was worth it...maybe something like "is your house or roof dirty? We clean it!, etc"

Told the guy to call me back monday.....thoughts?

We have done this in the past with no return (strictly from cover anyway). It is cheap and tempting but in my opinion I say stay away.

That money you could join an apartment association and get a list of dozens or a hundred or more managers.

That money you could make a ton of postcards on Vista Prints

Since the phone book era is dying, I would probably pass

Our phone books never get out of the plastic bags. They hit the trash can on the way in the house. The cover would go there too. With 78% of the US using the internet, the apartment assoc makes much more sense.

Don't do it. We did it last year. Nobody uses them. It's a waste of money

Have you ever seen someone with these on their phone book? We used to get these back in the late 70's or early 80's and we never put them on our books. Just threw them away.

A phone book distribution of 20k to businesses is misleading. Around here they deliver probably 20 or more books to each business. I'd say 75% or more are thrown away... or left to rot somewhere outside.
