Piston guide on AR pump...

Hey guys,

I'm rebuilding my AR pumps with water seals and oil seals and I'm getting a bit stuck here... I need to take out the piston guide but I can't, I've look at different service videos on YouTube but none are showing pumps like mine that have the piston guide flush with the housing that can't be taken out with vise grip or similar tools... Is there a way to take those out without special tools?

No. You need the right puller, or you risk damaging the brass.

Thanks for your answer Russ,

Are you talking about the Slide Hammer puller? If so I would need to have the 15mm socket as well since my AR pump is a 15MM...

I have always just put my finger down the hole and pulled it out, but, then I also use my fist to tap them back into place. They may be different on AR pumps vs the General pumps, though.

I tried with my finger as well Scott but man the hole is 15mm and I have bigger fingers than that... LOL! The thing is the O'rings are cooked because the pump has run for too long on bypass mode so nothing will remove those except the slide hammer puller... I've look at several service videos from Cat and other brands and I taught to myself that would be an easy job to do without specialized tools but no way!

Stephane, I have one you can borrow. I'll hold a $100.00 deposit on a credit card until I get it back, then issue a refund less my shipping charge.
Let me know.

I'm very thankful for the offer Russ but since I have another unit that I'll need to service later on and that I will probably buy bigger units in the future that I'll need to service too, I just ordered the complete Packing Extraction Kit from my local distributor!

But like I've said earlier thank you for the advices!
