Price for trailers

I am working on a contract with a big trucking company. They are 53' trailers, 150 of them. I quoted them $35 for one time cleaning and 25 formonthly washes. Does this sound about right, dont want to scsre them.

just the trailers? And how many will you be able to do at a time? I have bid fleets that said they had 25 trucks so I gave them a good deal. Come to find out only 5 or so are actualy on the lot at a time

that has append to me as well guy says iv got about 75 tractors and trailers but only 4-6 are there for one day a week they are always on the road. rigs will get DIRTY in a month i will make sure that you tell him that you need to have at least 25+ trucks on the lot on the day of the wash. i will lower your price and try to squeeze out a bi-weekly cleaning. 1 month of road grime is not to easy to clean bugs are nasty.good luck and congrats on the gig

I think we've all been there. Promises. I always put a "price based on minimum quantity of ___ each cleaning." That being said we'd be lucky to get those prices here for 12 trailers at a time. Almost no one cleans their trailers on a regular basis other than the big guys at least here. FedEx etc. There is a company here that does day cabs for $9 and trailers for $15. Not us.

I almost got burned with the "quantity of trailers" thing. What they had and what they said were 2 completely different things.

I told them that the pricing would be based on what is on the yard at the time, not what they own since not all of them are there at one time anyway.

I guess it is their way to try to lower prices by lying in an indirect way.

When you think about it, if a company only wants to pay a certain amount of money for fleet washing and then complain about the quality of work then that is not really the customer you want is it?

I hate hearing companies say that they can't find good contractors that do a good job, they just don't want to pay what the job is worth is all that there is to it.

They want department store quality at the dollar store prices, it is not going to happen. They can stick with that large company that does crappy quality work for cheap prices.

Business is business. I don't blame anyone for trying to save money. But the bait and switch stuff is just dishonest. Not good business in my opinion.

I had a company call me last week with 25 trailers to wash at a location not even within a mile of a water source. On a gravel lot and wanted everything recovered. And no tractor to move them.

Oh yeah they wanted them done that day too.

We've had everything from powdered graphite, jelly (needed heat), month old dairy products to major rotten potatoes. If they are reefer units with the floor grooves packed one can take longer than 4 exteriors.

It depends on what they haul.

We base prices on "normal" wash outs. We charge extra for "excessive debris". We contact the manager and ask if they want to see it first. Almost always they will just say, yeah I know it just clean it. The same with boxes and broken pallets. Find out if they expect you to haul off that stuff or if they have a dumpster to use.

Wear some safety glasses, there is usually a lot of dust and wood splinters in those if there is exposed wood, you don't want to get a splinter in your eye.

If the floors are strong, you might be able to lower the pressure on your surface cleaner and bust loose the really packed stuff and not have it blast all over the place, then rinse it out.

We should have a chat on fleet washing, talk about all kinds of methods, chemicals, tools, etc....

I do not know how to start the chat but maybe one of the other Mod's can or maybe Thad?

That would be cool.

no chat please. I use my I phone for this and it won't work on the chats. Unless I am doing somthing wrong. I used to like the chats now I feel like I am missing out. LOL

Here in Phoenix the local truck wash charges $95.00 for exterior cab & trailer. Plus all the up selling.

I've had fleets that I've done cab and trailer for $55.00, once a month. There are usually 15 to 25 trucks in the yard each month. Been more than 30 days since the last service on a unit, price jumps to $75.00.

Done a bunch of dump trucks, Super 16's & 18's, belly dumps, etc. But that all dropped off about 9 months ago when construction here took a dive. Most of my owner/operators wanted their trucks done for the same rate, but now once every 2-3 months. No way, twice the work, twice the $$$.
