Recoil popping back with extreme force

You should NOT need to worry about valve adjustments every month..
What causes the valve to go out of adjustment is..
wear.. which takes year of use,
loose adjustment nut.. by a less meticulous mechanic,
bent push-rod.. from loose adjustment, or major back-fire,
cracked or bent rocker.. from metal fatigue, adjustment, or back-fire.

If you find adjustment won't "stay put" .. look closer to find and fix the "cause of that effect"

If it were a bent rod, do they slip in and out? Or is it an engine tear down?

This problem doesn't have anything to do with recoil but the exhaust valve on my GX-340 opens slightly on the compression/power stroke. I made a video of it but am having a problem uploading. I wonder why the exhaust valve would "pulse" that way? Hopefully I'll be able to get the video uploaded to You Tube so I can post it here.

Never mind. Compression Release!

to check a push-rod..
loosen the rocker enough it falls to the side,
pull it out, and roll it across a flat surface to see if it is bent.
you might get away with bending it back if it's only off a tiny bit, but
it takes a LOT of direct pressure at full HP @ 3600rpm..
so for the $9 bucks or so.. just replace it.

time is expensive,
downtime is way more than just a "temporary setback".
