Roof cleaning of supermarkets in the UK

On our works we get a lot of calls to clean supermarket roofs. These tend to be tile with a metal corrugated barrier sub layer. The stores have been up for around twenty years and there is always ingress of water. Nothing that can be done about it other than to warn the client. They can be anything up to 40 000sqm and can take up to two weeks to clean.

Here's some photos.

We are only allowed to work from Access equipment and this is always with harness attached (licenses to use access equipment is required). Occassionally we can work from flat roofs but could never walk on the roof - health and safety!! and also the pitches are different over here.

Tony

It is all on a day rate. I have a lot of sub contract work, from a painting & decorating firm, on the southern part of the country but similarly have a lot of direct works on the Northern part of the country. I haven't done a roof clean on my direct works and the P & D firm provide all access equipment.

The work mix has always been that the P& D firm have always given me more work than I could provide for myself, now my direct works have tipped the balance and by the end of this year they will be the largest part of my work.

If I get a roof clean on my works it will pay far more - it is better priced!

I am not complaining on the other works though - we are one of the better paid contractors!!

Are there many people over there doing similar projects on a commercial basis?

Great pix.

Mallard Systems was sold to someone from the UK and I think they were trying to start a division there. Have you ever seen them?

AC

Sorry

No time to even think at the moment!!. This is coming up to my busiest period. From now till December 5th it will be constant.

AC - Never heard of mallard systems

Clearshine - yes they are pressure washed. I have about 5 diesel, 2 petrol, the Hot & Mighty twin operator unit diesel unit. but all of the roofs done so far have been with cold water diesel machines at 15lpm @ 5000psi.

We get a lot of problems because the stores are live, so there are always people to work around and other contractors, the roofs are tiled but with a corrugated metal sub layer. They always leak but the overall effect is of a new roof and we are always applauded - no matter how many people we have gotten wet!!!!
