Roof sealer?

Who out there knows anything about a sealer to prevent algae from growing back after a cleaning? A company in my area is going around upselling a roof sealer. Just want to keep up with my industry.

There are a few mildew inhibitors on the market that are used on roofs. They don't seal the roof though.

From a flatworker who has never cleaned a roof, sounds bogus to me - something outdoors, in the weather, in the sun - don't think it would make a significant difference.

We seal roofs all the time. its a big up sale and it works. Look at simix surface solutions. We are about to start on a $ 32,000. roof cleaning and seal.

VERY interesting....How long have you been sealing shingle and tile roofs with these products?

They may just be calling it a sealer, but in reality selling the customer a maintenance program and retreating the roof yearly.
example: By allowing us to apply this sealer to your roof, we can guarantee it will remain clean for an additional 12 months.

On commercial flatwork, sealer of any kind is absolutely worthless. I am doubtful that sealing a roof makes any meaningful difference. Is there actual evidence of a difference at 6 months or whatever the time scale is?

I watched the video looks sort of different, sidewalks and flat surfaces I don't think so.

Defy sells a sodium metasilicate roof cleaner, but that chem does not keep the roof cleaner longer, so enter the "roof Sealer" This is basically an algacide to inhibit the growth of algae on a roof. They go the route of not using harsh chems that harm the roof and vegitation and make the sealer an easy upsell. Bottom line is that it stays clean for a couple of years when you have to reseal.

To each his own. If it gives the HO peace of mind, sobeit...

As far as the sealker for flatwork I would agree as it gets tons of foot traffic. With a roof it could work I would think.

Hopefully people are educated. If they are not, thats your job. Here is what I hand out to EVERY roof customer or potential customer.

I hope it helps you out.

My problem is when a sealed roof has failed. Now you have to put on a few more strong coats of the love to get it clean. This happen when someone sold a sealer for a tile roof in fl and told the ho that it would last 7years. They were very upset due to the cost and the liars.

I now have them on a yearly service for roof cleaning
Myself I would never put a sealer on a roof of any kind.

If you go into my web site and under roof cleaning you will see the first pictures are of that roof I was talking about. Now take a good look cause the sealer that is on the roof has turn the whole roof black. It looks like it was burned up from the heat of the sun.
It wasnt a easy job getting them cleaned

This company who was doing the upsell of the sealer is now out of business. As I always have said. You just have to wait out the hacks and they will go away and out of business. Carry on!
