Tightening belts

And MAKE SURE our belts line up straight. If they don't your belts will go bye bye real quick. This is why I always have someone else doing my repair work. PITA

I forgot to mention, I use a straight edge to make sure the pulleys are in alignment.

Before S belts on cars, auto stores used to sell belt tightners.....about 12" long piece of all thread with a cup on each end to grab the pulley and a coupler in the middle to tighten and loosen. Maybe you can find one in the local area.

Why is belt adjustment a PITA at this point? One would think with this many generations of pressure washer models it would be set up better.

I know the pressure pro I have will not pull the pump straight back, it cocks to one side. So you have to adjust one side tighten the bolt than adjust the other bolt to align the pulley. Kind of a pita, they need to use a better adjustment set up. I guess the manufacture are just to cheap!

You get what you pay for. My pumps sit between two pieces of angle iron so they cannot move from side to side. They are tightened down with a 3/4 threaded pipe under the center of the pump welded to a piece of flat steel. There is no way, when tightning, for the pump to move in anything but a straight line.

Get what I pay for? More like I pay for what I can get. Can't get approved for a loan right now because of debt to income ratio, and have to get what I can pay cash for. Not exactly earning top dollar here in lowball country. Have to work with what you got sometimes.

William, this sounds very inventive and creative, can you post some picture of this so I can see it please?

I am looking for a way to rig up something to tighten a pump on something that I would like to build soon.

Thanks.
