Water Dragon Hot Water Skid Questions/General Questions

So I received my water dragon skid a couple weeks ago and the more I am playing with the more questions that I am starting to have.

  1. Do most skids have some type of water filtration in the lines, or at the inlets?
  2. On a hot water unit with a Beckett Burner do you normally have a thermostat to adjust the temp of the hot water unit? Mine doesn't and seems like you would want that type of control.
  3. I get some discolored water coming out of the system for a few minutes when first starting it up, is this normal?

Overall I am really happy with the unit, but wasn't sure on the above listed items and would love some input.

I don't want to speak for Paul, but yes, most have filter between supply (tank or pressure feed) and pump - I believe yours may have a 'Y' trap filter.

You can request a thermostat or add one, but the high limit switch on your skid will suffice. I have a skid with about 4000 hours on it, it dies not have a thermostat. We use hot water a lot and not having a thermostat has not been a problem.

The dark water is from the coil, how many hours on your skid? Not something to worry about in my opinion, new coils usually do this for a bit, in my experience.

I think a themostate is a good idea saves fuel and most of the time you don't need that much heat.I wished you had told him or they told you that it didn't come with one so you could have request that for a few bucks more you could have control of your heat.

If you will be running reduced flow with smaller tips you could use the thermostat.

Thanks for the insight guys. I did find the filter finally, just didn't realize exactly what I was looking for. Add for the thermostat I wish it had one, but looks like I will be adding one later on down the road.

I like having the thermostat on the hot water rigs so I can set the temperature based on what I am doing whether it is degreasing trucks/heavy equipment (you need a little bit of heat but don't want steam), to popping gum (need hot water to melt the gum to remove it without damaging concrete) to cleaning greasy dumpster pads, drive thru's, etc....

I think I can make things work if I only had the on/off button, for me it is just personal preference.
