How do you avoid the deck house washing w/ x-jet??

Hi,
We did our first house wash the other day. Thanks to the help from everyone here the house turned out pretty good and went fairly quickly.
We used the X-Jet and a mixture of 12.5 SH, Sunbrites "Power House" and Water in a 5 Gal bucket.

I was very happy with the results of the house, however I had covered the deck with a plastic tarp to try and keep the house wash mix off of it, but some still got on the deck and bleached some areas. We got it looking normal again but it took some extra work.

My question is how do you avoid getting the 12.5 SH mix on the deck?? Especially when you are only doing a house wash and not the deck... Any tips would be very helpful, I have been searching through the forums but haven't found anything about this yet.

And Thank You to everyone here, this forum has been a HUGE help to us in getting started.:D

The house wash I use doesn't need 12.5 to be affective so I'd just make your soap a little stronger and not use the 12.5. I've yet to have a problem with decks but I don't use 12.5 for house washing.... eacochem cleansol bc at 4 to1 then 3-1 through my xjet at 5.5 gal a min.

I've never had to cover any decks and I normally just Down Stream all my chems on the house. X Jetting applies much stronger chems. As far as the deck is concered if there would be any concerns at all, keeping it wet with fresh water and rinsing always works for me. Knock on wood(no pun intended) I've not had a problem yet. Hope this helps! :)

Sell the deckwash and make that money too.I always tell them the edge of the deck will be clean where the eaves drain off so we might as well clean it all the way too.I downstream like larry so it really is not that big of a difference but I sell it that way.

Always be careful with an Xjet.It will put bleach down on a deck strong enough to fuss it up if your not careful.Cleaning a deck for free sucks but sanding a deck for free REALLY SUCKS!

Never had a problem with Decks, just use the Simple Cherry with the love and it works great each and every time.

I hope you are not putting more than gal of 12.5 in the 5er. thats with a 5 gal machine, less for a smaller machine. I agree with Larry and JC from Cajun. Always warn someone, and tell them it is not hurting the deck, just putting a clean spot on it. And wet everything you dont want bleach on. Dont worry bout tarps. Tarps will pool bleach on top of them and then when you move them splash.

Yeah, I agree with Larry, Listen to Larry, he knows his stuff.

Thanks for the help everyone, I was thinking that wetting it down might do the trick. I think the tarp might have hurt rather than help by holding the the mix underneath it in certain spots.

Cajun:
I will defiantly always try to sell the deck wash as well, and I like they way that you explain it to your customers.

I am going to order some of the Simple Cherry for next time too, since I hear so many good things about it here.

Mike,
I use reg. Clorox on my house wash, not 12.5, and I always soak the deck and surrounding landscape. I mix in a 5gal. bucket and downstream with #30 nozzle as follows:
3 gal. Clorox
1.5 gal. water
2 (8oz) scoops of simple cherry
1 (8oz) splash of F13 (the secret ingredient)

This mix has done VERY well for me, even the gutters come clean without brushing.

Does that require pressure to remove the algae?

Where do you purchase the f-13 from and what does it do lower the hardness of the h20 ?
