Never miss an opertunity....

Never miss an opertunity....

This week I was at the cabin with the family. It is nestled in the California Gold country just 40 minutes from Yosemite. We went there to unwind and decompress. No land line phone service, no cell phone... not even a TV signal. However it was not totally ruffing. There is a home owners association that maintains the clubhouse, outdoor movies, activities, private lake and the swimming pools, etc.

This was the last place to think of business.... in fact, this was the place to "Get Away" from business. So I had a few days and we went. No watch, no clocks, no phones.

When there, we met another family as we do every time we go up there. My kids and theirs started to play together at the lake in the sand making castles. we started to talk about what the other one did back at our normal lives. Comes out to be that he was in the cooperate offices, upper management, of this company that I had been trying to get a "break" in the front door for the last two years. Here he was, in his swim suit and we had all day to talk about it, and so we did. He has 11 large garages that need to be cleaned. I told him we charge anywhere from 25k to 70 k a garage. He did not even bat an eye. In fact, he thought it was a good price considering the Cal EPA requirements. He also asked if we could do his other garages outside the state of California. " Not a problem" I said. We exchanged cards and continued to talk for the next three days.

On the last day, I invited him to the Giants game that we put on every other year. We get luxury box suites for 30 or so people and invite our clients. This year we are thinking about renting a 50- 65 ft yacht sailboat to take our clients over the bay to the ball game instead of a couple of limos. I furnish a professional bartender, drinks and food. We start sailing at 9:00 am. Game is at 1:00 pm. Then after the game, I have a catering service furnish the yacht with fresh seafood and all the fixings for the trip back. We sail until night fall. This two day event is always packed. Last year we had season court-side tickets that I bought with my brother. We shared the expense. Those tickets was $2,000 a game to have your feet touching the court. This baseball event will set us back over $11,000 for the 2 days.

I am confident that we will have a new client, making us the biggest garage cleaning service in California.

You know what would be cool? You should get those cheerleaders out on the sailboat! Now THAT would sell some garage cleaning.

We did check that out last year for fun. Unfortunately, unless it was for a promotion thing for a charity or a team benefit, it was a no go.

I do agree with you. That would definitely sell some garages.

LOL LOL

Don't worry they'll be at the Hawaii Roundtable. :D

When I was a young punk (as opposed to the old punk I am now) I worked for a private investigation firm in San Jose. Every Christmas he would put on a big deal at the marina for his clients. He gave away prizes and usually pulled in about 130 people. He would hire a flotilla of boats to go by and each boat was decorated in Christmas lights that spell out Merry......next boat Christmas...next boat.....from....etc, etc till the last big boat came by with his company name spelled out on it.

This cost him $50k every year but I think he was pulling in about 6mil a year.

Hey Jim, by chance is your cabin at Pine Mountain Lake in Groveland?

Jim, How cool was that!? What are the chances? That kind of thing can give you a 'high' for days. Maybe time for a lottery ticket. Too good man, hope you get them all.

Guess the EPA had front row seats with special hostest service

I would offer them some tickets... there is only one thing wrong with that your statement.....

IT'S AGAINST THE LAW !!!

Just a note here guys, never offer a public official who is policing you something of value. Nobody will win on that.

In Maryland the gifts cannot be worth more than $25 if my memory serves me right.

Any garages in my neck of the wood Jim?

That is sweet. That sounds like retirement maybe a bit earlier than expected.
