What do you charge per Sq Ft on a deck job, typically?

Ryan,
We charge according to sq. ft., the degree of difficulty, work involved and the customer. This varies for each project. Thank You.

we charge $3.50 /sq ft
that includes all trim and we buy the stain

We charge $1.60-$2.00 a sq ft for the deck floor and charge railing by the linear ft.

Ya --people still flip out even @ $2

This is the most screwed up economy that I've seen in a long time...

15 year mortgage money @ 5% but home sales still suffer.

Homeowners putting off improvements or trying to do them on their own.

This must all break...

Its all about the sell y'all....You see i always briefly explain the 5 step process
strip, wash, nuetralize, sand, and stain. Of course "we only use a premium stain" I follow up the phone conversation with a detailed e-mail estimate (looks real Professional)

I mean let's get honest here.....Townhouse that;s 45min-1hour away 12x12 deck 144sq ft at $2.00....=$288.00 -$35.00(stain) and you always have to go back...wash 1 day stain another minus your gas, maybe i got crazy math or something but that's maybe $200.00 for at least a full day's work

I can do a roof in 2 hours and make $500.00
I can do an HOA with 169 units in a week and make $10,000
at the end of the day, sometimes ya gotta let the little fish go......but before you do....."what condition is your siding in Ma'am"

Here's a good question....country club, 4000sq ft deck an hour away (not in the city) What do you charge here??
If I go in @ $3.50 i'll never get it
Another question: Can you use an adjustable height silver eagle surface cleaner on wood?

Hey Shark: When did you change your name? Are you INC.?

I just changed it over this year. I was tired of people asking Shark like the fish? I like the new name much better. I've been working on my sales hopefully I will start selling for much more.

No, they're amphibians.

Very well put!

I never know how to answer when people talk about what they charge per square foot. The question needs to be precursored by how you are measuring to get your square foot number

We charge a square foot rate in the floor, linear foot in the rails, seperate sq foot rate for lattice, flat fee for each step and add on costs for benches, planters, shelfs

If i was to take the total price of my job and divide it by the square footage in the floor it goes anywhere from 2.60 to 6.00

For the easiest breakdown of my pricing.
$2 per s/f of floor +
$7 per L.F of rail +
$2.50 per s/f of add-ons like benches, planter boxes, steps.

Price includes strip, pH balance, defur, sand handrails, seal and all materials inclusive.

That's the same way I bid my decks.

When were talking about $3.50 a sq ft for decks I'm assuming railing is included. There is no way I could get $3.50 for the deck floor unless it was a very difficult strip job or the deck was a townhouse where it's only maybe 100 sq ft.

Ken somehow I thought you were higher in pricing
Do you add on for posts/height?
