My .22 cal pistol is a personal favorite of mine and I am never without it.

It saved my life a few years ago when attacked by a Grizzly while hiking in the mountains with a family member.

I was able to escape, walking at a brisk pace, after I shot my brother-in-law in the knee.

I'm reading the bio of Oscar Goodman, the former mob lawyer and the best mayor this city has ever had. Apparently Tony Spilatro's signature gun was a 22. He killed dozens with it.

Interesting book.

When Rosenthal (Deniro in "Casino") was in front of the gaming board arguing for his license and yelling "how many times did I comp you sir!" and all kind of other favors he had done for the one member of the gaming board which resulted in the little gaming board weasel scurrying out of the hearing room like a rat I never realized that the gaming board member was.....................Harry Reid.

Senator Harry Reid?? Rosenthal was in his car when it blew up..did he ever get lucky.. That put him into retirement if I remember correctly.

We almost bought the house right across and down the street from the house in the movie on the golf course. You can see it when Sharon Stone is driving off in the Mercedes after wrecking the front yard. We had our real estate agent check into buying the house in the movie but they wouldn't sell.

I'm going to try to finish the book this weekend and watch the movie again.

Interestingly Oscar started as a prosecutor but couldn't stomach it.

He took on tough mob clients after defending a black man accused of a shooting because a witness said they saw him running away from a shooting with a shotgun.

At the end of the trial a man who looked virtually identical to the defendant came forward and said he had ran with the shotgun after he heard the shooting and was preparing to defend himself. A man's life was hanging in the balance of one eyewitness. And there was no motive.

The prosecutor told Oscar, "that's tough" and indicated that he's already got his conviction and he doesn't care if his guy was the right guy or not.

Oscar was furious and arranged a meeting between the judge and the defendant in jail prior to sentencing (the prosecutor was still going for the death penalty) The judge spoke with the defendant who had been sitting in his courtroom for weeks for about 15 minutes or so.

After which time Oscar brought in the defendant and revealed that the judge had been conversing with the other guy all that time.

The defendant was released and the charges were dropped.

But Oscar Goodman knew from that point on that the judicial system has nothing to do with justice anymore and just serves as a political springboard for the corrupt. What better way to be a thorn in their side than to frustrate them with their own tactics.

You do not have to run faster than the bear, only faster than your slowest friend.
