Seems like the guys who offer to certify you are like the mail order ministry ordinations. the certifacations means nothing. One guy was offering NFPA certifications on Dave's BBS, I asked him how he could offer NFPA certification. He explained the process. My next posting I mentioned that NFPA did not certify any thing. He replied that I did not know what I was talking about. My next post was concluded with my NFPA membership number. I heard nothing more about his inflated claims about being NFPA certified to certify others. Unless the certifiacation is from an agency that is involved in lisencing, the certifiaction means very little. None of those offering certifiacations tell which jurisdiction recognize the certifiacations.
I think certification is a good way to tell your customer that you have been through some kind of training. I also think it would be a good idea for newbies to take some training. I took Daryl's class several years ago and in 6 molnths the knowledge I gained paid for my expenses. Just don't try to tell me that some 3 to 5 day class is going to make you an expert. I have been in business for some time now and am still learning about the trades I am involved in. Some day maybe I can feel comfortable in claiming to be an expert.
This e-bay auction is from a guy in Tennessee, any bets on who it is? he talks a good story, and has even told us that lots of people have graduated from his course and how great his people do. yet for all of his claims, none of his graduates have ever told us how great their business is. I would like to see proof that the graduates of these certification businesses stay in business any longer than those of who have not paid the $8,000.00
