bleach

I have a question that i need input on. I have been researching bleach. To the best of what ive learned, bleach is a acid. This is what I did.
1] looked up the MSDS for clorox bleach.
2] indreadents h20 and sodium hyperclorite
3] looked up sodium hyperclorite, found out that its hypochlorous ACID and sodium salt
4]looked up hypochlorous acid, its defined as a week unstable acid found in salt solutions.
So is bleace a acid? I say it is, based on what ive researched. Any input would be appreaciated.

Ron, as I understand it, by definition, acids have a low ph and alkalines have a high ph. Bleach has a high ph. My personal experience is using bleach to neutralize muriatic acid overspray on grass. The grass had turned brown from the acid, but the bleach brought it back to green within a few hours.

Im not sure weather bleach is an acid or an alkaline but I know here in Delaware we get very bad mildew from the humidity and soaping with a bleach mix of about 50/50 and allowing to dwell 1 or 2 mins then following with a strong alkaline cleaner make the homes look brand new so with this in mind it seems like a 2 step process like the fleet washers use...acid followed by alkaline = clean surface but I don't know if it is an acid or not but I know it works.

Bleach is not an acid. It is an alkaline.

Sodium hypochlorite is made by combining chlorine and sodium hydroxide (NaOh).

Sodium hypochlorite is the active ingredient in bleach. Bleach is a combination of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and water.

DO NOT MIX BLEACH WITH ACIDS. Chlorine gas will form when bleach is mixed with acids.
