Burger King Again

Dint freak out , but I was asked by a company that is installing new broilers in the Burger Kings to Change out Ansul Nozzles and perform a total system inspection...what really freaks me out is that I am a pyro-chem Dealer and distributor .. The Fire Equipment Company that is currently servicing the fire equipment is an ansul company.... The Systems that need upgrading are ansuls... HMMMM.. Well any how I decided to look at the hood and the way it was being cleaned because it was done by a company out of meridian , MS that on the Hood cleaning sticker says that they cleaned it this month... They also claim on the sticker to IKECA Certified... Which I do Not believe it is true .. The hood looked Good, The Fan Looked Good , But OH HELL when I removed the filters there was so much grease , Another scam cleaning service..... The Grease around the fusible link was as thick around as a tennis ball.... I got a feeling that I need to be cleaning these again...
The IKECA logo on there homemade hood cleaning sticker really bothered me because how can someone claim to be certified and do such a piss poor job...

I called the company and offered to email the photos that I took this morning of this hood cleaning .. I got an immediate call back saying that they were told by the hood cleaning company that due to the 24 hour cooking that they would need to clean this every week for at least a year before all the grease could be properly removed... ALL I COULD SAY WAS BS BS BS BS>>>>>>>>>VENTED NOW... Damn I hope they want me to clean these again... The initial cleaning will be hard ... but at least I can get some really good before and after pictures....
By the way if these guys are IKECA maybe the IKECA needs to do follow up inspections of who the certify to do hood cleanings.... I mean my Grandmother could have cleaned this better with her garden hose and Walmart spray nozzle...

OK Lets pose a question. What if you are certified bt IKECA. Officially certified and you do a job as described by the poster here. You know a real **** job. Now the restaurant burns to the ground. Does IKECA assume some of the responsibility? I bet that the lawyers who represent the insurance company subject to the liability would consider them fair game in the lawsuit.
After all, the IKECA did certify them. Isnt IKECA responsible for checking up on its students and making sure they are performing up to the standards at the school. I wonder. Also who certifies the certifiers?

yes ... I hate knocking companies.. But hey I have done this cleaning and fire equipment for 15 years and I have never heard of them until this morning.. The job at clinton was just not exceptable by my standerds .. According to the NFPA ( SHALL BE CLEANED TO BARE METAL ) the cleaning I saw and have photos of is not to bare metal.... I say if you agree to clean it to NFPA and IKECA standards then you better do it.... Thats why we take before and after pictures to show our customers that it is really clean...

Just because you are a member and are certified, it is still up to the company to service the accounts according to standards that he has agreed to. When he leaves the organization he should change his stickers.

All organizations have issues like this-it is a problem in weeding out the problem members and the like. Don’t judge IKECA for the bad apples.

Ok here is the update on what I can gather.. Strategic is using 2 companies to do the service .. One is a fire company that I believe may have hired the cleaning company... So now I will most likely be hired by the fire equipment company to clean the stores in Mississippi... Does anyone else deal with strategic corp out of Cali.

You had to know this would get a response when you posted it. Are we only supposed to look at the good things IKECA does? Don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain....I judge every org and assoc. by how they handle their members....shoddy work included. It is the hacks that only clean half the system that give this industry a bad name. Until orgs like IKECA hold their current members accoutnable for the shoddy work they do, they will be judged by the shoddy work that is seen.

Can I get an Amen on That......... Certification is not a big thing here in Mississippi like in other states but you have to have 90% Desire to do the Job Right and 10% Hard Work. I have had some of the best compliments from customers where they say " John may be more expensive and take a little longer to clean the hood but when he gets thru cleaning my vent hoods look like brand new " With out a desire to excel in this business you will not make the better prices and you will not be cleaning hoods long... I enjoy what I do and I would not want to jeapordize it over what should have been an extra hour of work...

That is the truth. A little extra time will not hurt anyone. Its just those that want that money and to go home. More and more of them popping up everywhere.

I have had 4 calls from restauarnt chains this passed week .. I would need a 12 crew and 6 truck fleet to clean all of these stores .. while I am not complaining I just don't want to grow that big just yet... I have one chain I am going to talk to today they have 52 locations... But they want the hood cleaned every 6 months.. Some are steak restaurants .. That bothers me a little.. Then I have a chain of stores to meet with next week they have 47 stores in Mississippi they want the hoods cleaned every 45 days.. All I can say is I need more equipment.... See what doing a good job does ( It gets you more business and makes your company grow ) THIS IS A GOOD THING !!!
The thing about guys that do a poor job is that pretty soon they will not get the money and then they want have a home to go home too.. LOL
