Cancelled appointments

I been thinking of putting a cancelation fee on customers who cancel on day of appointment... I plan on putting 48 hour notice to all calls on cancelation.. People tell me at door, When i call 48 hours in advance to confirm booking... Is that standard practice or am i looking for trouble on this issue... Maybe 50 to 75 dollars is what im thinking...

thanks

The only time I think of doing something like that is right after a cancellation! But seriously, if you do it, try something like "No fee charged if rescheduled within _____". The few cancellations I get are usually a relief...there is always another customer wanting to be done sooner, or a deck waitng for a rain-less day.

I dont think that would work, they will call somebody else before pay $75.When i get really booked i start telling people ,it will be one day next week ,i will give you a call ,instead of telling them which day exatly it will be.That way if somebody cancels,so what, call next person on the list and you are busy again.
Usually if somebody cancels ,i dont bother calling them back,i tell them, calll me when you want it done, most times they dont

Go for it

I say go for it !! Put it in. You have to look at it this way they are costing you money. Heck you are running a business you can't let people cancel on you you are counting on them to let you work . If they cancel you are out of money because you could have had someone else in that time slot for work. I change $75 dollars for cancelation fee's. They have to give me 24 hour notice not to get charged that price. It is writen in my contracts. I point it out to all my coustomers when they sign the contract and make sure they understand it. I have had to use it only once and yes they did pay the extra $75. I had one guy do a no show to me. I was ticked . BUt he called me two days later and told me how he had to rush his wife to the hospital. It was a true my sister-in-law was her nurse. I did wave the canelation fee that time. I say put it in and then you can decide if you wan to enforce it or not. But having it in your contract might just cut down on cancelation's.

I don't have one but would assume you'd rarely have to enforce it...it seems most likely that it'll scare people out of canceling on you. can anybody vouch for that?
