Chicken Houses

First does anyone have any experience cleaning chicken houses. How do you go about pricing a chicken house? What all is involved with cleaning, should I steer clear of any certain items. What items should I pay attention to the most. Are trucks, trailers and myself safe around the ammonia. Thanks for any help.

Good ole Delaware

Famous for the Chicken **** smell. What part are you from ? I lived in Laurel for a number of years before I was transfered. Cant help you on the cleaning part. I can only tell you this....."Better you than me" I would not touch it.

Do a "chicken house" search on this board and you'll find this question was answered in 2002 by a fellow named Mike Smith in Delaware. Check it out.

Although I have never done one.We were hired to demolish(non pressure washing) a building at a big egg farm, and while we were there they had a guy pressure washing two huge buildings, that housed the chickens..Everytime this guy came outside for a break ,he was covered from head to toe in chicken s#%*.The smell was pretty nasty.
I'll be honest I don't think they could pay me enough to do it.If you do it charge them for what it is worth, make sure you wear a good full face respirator, and full rain suit, and if you have an employee that you are trying to get rid of,this job has his name on it!Lol!.Good Luck!

I wash the trucks for an egg farm. The smell 50 yards away from the barns is bad enough, NO WAY I am going in. The employees that do the maintenance and cleaning are a little bit different than the average guy so maybe they are used to the smell. They have some manure sreaders that they want washed occasionally and I charge them for the smell and disposable rain gear every time. I cringe and duck when I hit a rib or angle that causes spray to come back at me.

Gainesville, GA is suppose to be the King of Chickens. I think the county it is in is considered the Chicken Capital of the World. Or something like that. And for you GA boys who like to go into Lake Lanier. Think about Gainesville and those Tributaries running from the Chicken Houses.

Anyways are you doing the Outside of the Building or are you going to the Inside?

I doubt you have to wear any special stuff because of the chicken poop. I guess you could wear some kind of chemical suit to keep the Poop off of you. And maybe a breathing thing like what the Car Painters use. And probably a face mask of some sort if you don't want Chicken poop getting all over you.

The best of luck to you.
