Concrete Cleaners

Hi everyone! Could some one tell me if they have used a product that is supposed to remove petroleum based stains from concrete, like ReKrete. Do these products really work and how many different companies make this type of product? I plan on cleaning servive stations and I need a product that is supposed to have results as they claim in their advertisements. All information is greatly appreciated and welcomed.:)

Have never used it so would also be interested in the results but my concern here is how do you plan to pick up and clean that water after you clean the gas station concrete?

If you just plan to let it run into the storm drains DON'T even consider cleaning gas stations. Not trying to put a damper on your work but you must recapture, clean and either reuse that water or dispose of it in certified waste dump stations.

Thanks for reply

Thank you Jon for the reply but I will not let the water run to the storm drains. I plan on capturing it with a wet and dry vac, and disposing of it through the sewer system. If you know anyone that has used such a product, please let me hear the testimony of the results that were found. This is the very reason why I posted this question is because I know that people would be interested in the results of such products. I don't know if you have looked at ReKrete's web site, but the results that they post of their product are impressive. What contractor wouldn't want the concrete to look almost brand new after they have cleaned it. This would set a contractor aside from one that just powerwashes it but still leaves stains on the concrete.:)

Keith,

Ok now having just gone to their web site what your talking about is not new, do a search under "cleancrete" and "Pave Clean" and you will find they are all the same basic product.

Dry cleaning or absorbing of the oil only on concrete, there are places that those products are an advantage, sprinkle it down, brush it in, let it dwell, sweep up and dispose.

No water involved. It is only going to clean the sports that have grease and oil. Does not remove gum, dirt, soda spills and other misc. items from the concrete.

I am not for nor against it but do not use it, yet I can see times I might add it to my business.

Keith give me a call or send Email and I can connect you with the distributor, he might have someone up there to demo it for you.

Jon:

What do you use for cleaning concrete?

I have used Delco's R-109, Gemtek SC1000 and Zep Super Flash among many other things, most of those many other things were samples and private label degreasers that did not make it with me.

I am waiting for Zep to ship me what is called Zep flash light/split.

What it is is made for reclaim systems like mine so it will not eat up the things inside it. Truthfully the Super Flash is probably one of the best things I have used, it is power as is the R109 and it does cut the grease BUT it is not safe for reclaim and it must be neutralized.

Just remember many of the private label stuff is basically the same. Butyl is one of the main ingredients in cleaning compounds.

I like the power stuff as it is easier to store, transport and use and can be diluted with water if needed.

To me one of the tricks is to know how to use a product to YOUR advantage, every job can be different, gas stations vs. drive thoughs and dumpster pads. Dwell time, wetting concrete first and brushing in the product before using the surface cleaner or simply run it though your upstream if it can be done safely.
