copper question..

What is the best method for cleaning copper.I have a building with a flashing strip on the roof, that is leaking green onto the concrete below. Not on the face of the building(brick),only on the base of bldg.,and the concrete sidewalk. There are painted alum window frames to deal with, below the source copper.Don't want to mar them. The green at the bottom of the wall is new,the problem is the flashing strip up top.Any ideas? Thanks.

Aluminum brightener wuold probably leave the copper gleaming again, as well as remove the green stain on the concrete. Are the window frames painted or anodized? Painted won't get hurt at all. Anodized will spot and streak the finish with AB.

that is leaking green onto the concrete below.

That green stuff is often intentional, you may not want to remove. they dont want shinny copper. You might check.......

Thanks Russ,
Please excuse my ignorance, but what kind of alum. brightner?I will recheck whether anodized or painted.

Hey Ron,
Thanks for your reply. The patina on the copper may be intentional, but the bleeding on the sidewalk and base of building is not. That is what they are concerned about.Any thoughts?BTW,these lower stains are quite fresh.Would it be possible that just hot water/high pressure would remove them?Ignorant, but asking to learn.Thanks.
I just shot off an e mail to inquire what he wants, patina,or polished.
Thanks again.

update:customer is not interested in cleaning copper, but does want green stain removed from concrete. This stain recently appeared. Is it possible this would come off w/o chems? What are the odds?

I have a high end home with the same issue. I use an acid - no more Patina. Comes off real easy - especially if it has not been there long.

Tim, What product do you use to remove the copper stain?

I have the same issue at my house.

I tried hot water but it did very little.
