We have a neighbor that put up solar panels all over his roof. They have been covered with snow most of the winter. Not doing much good for him, I guess he just added an extra year on the cost recovery...

What type of product would you use to de-ice solar panels? I know that some of the guys up north are de-iceing sidewalks and such, but never thought about solar panels. Great idea!

Going to look at three more sites tomorrow!

When they are icy we have used hot water, but most of the time it is just a matter of brushing off the snow (like roof raking). Actual cleaning is a whole different ball game.

Using hot water for de-icing doesn't risk cracking the panels do to the extreme temp change? just asking...

Not that hot!

I personally have never had an issue with the warm water cracking any glass. I wash consistently in temps around 25-28 degrees and as low as 10 degrees. The only time I have seen glass crack is when there was a large chip or existing crack already (trucks).

No problems with hot water on the panels. We have two HUGE jobs to perform next week. Each sit is 585ft x 360 ft Roof type solar. We talked to the garage owners and discussed how much they were losing in power per day. WOW!
