good chems for redwwod?

I have to do a house that is all redwood siding any suggestions on chems to brighten it back up? Do you guys always defelt befopre sealing in most cases?

Oxalic or citric acid used after some type of higher ph cleaner/stripper.

Redwood is a little more delicate to work with than other woods due to its very soft nature. Is there an existing finish on there - or is this just a cleaning?
