What equipment are you using for grease trap cleaning?
Motorized drain cleaner/your current equipment/ pressure washing equipment?
Thanks. Mtngoat.

I have cleane da couple in the past, but no longer. These are the most disgusting, vile, stinking contraptions that you'll ever deal with. I would use a wet vac to suck out the sludge. You have to dispose of the junk via special waste pickup or buy an $80000 pump truck. I will never clean another.

We did a grease trap for a contractor at a school during the Christmas break. The tank or vault had a crack in it which needed to be patched. They got a pump truck to empty the tank and then stand by as we cleaned it, to clean the water out as we went along. In no uncertain terms were we going to deal with the sludge. For safety equipment we had a air handler, it forced air down into the vault. Lights to see, GFI of course. Respirators, Tyvek suite, gloves, goggles etc. Took 4 hrs cost them 800.00 from us. The Honey Pot truck was over $2K. One of those jobs to put in the portfolio. After we cleaned up the equipment we went to the Steakhouse for lunch.

The grease traps I have encountered, we used our equipment and vacumed out sludge followed by scrapping and a good squirt with the high pressure equipment.
And yes, it is awful stuff. Bacteria ridden mess.
I think it took us just as long to clean up our stuff afterwords as it did to comletely clean out grease trap.

Anyone out there doing this as a side biz? Thanks Tim cotter/ Mtngoat

We did one grease trap that had not ever been opened up in since the kitchen was built three years ago. We expected the worst when we opened it up but when we opened it up it barely smelled at all and was very clean inside except a couple of pieces of food that looked like they had just went in there that day. When we pulled out the metal tray we found a huge tapeworm that had wrapped itself around the tray to hold itself in place and which was probobaly keeping the trap pretty clean.
We clean both hoods and the greasetrap every week throughout the year so it doesnt get that bad, but if I didnt have the hoods to clean I would never do another one.

Maybe thats a new market "stocking" grease traps with tape worms,LoL! Every week cleaning frequency is pretty much unheard of,what type of restaurant is it?I know it is definately not Chinese, but if it is I bet the tapeworm is gone, they would batter that baby up and throw him in the fryer :D

It is a hospital. We clean the kitchen and cafeteria fry hoods every week and two steam/oven hoods every month.

Welcome to the bbs Jeremy! Is every week a common frequency for hospitals in your area,or is it just this one account?
Jim
