Has anyone installed the Ikea Norrsken?

Hey everyone! I happened to get my hands on this legendary track lighting system—the Ikea Norrsken. It still looks stylish, of course, but I’ve run into some issues with the installation. It’s a unique system—it’s not like a modern track system that snaps into place in five minutes. Here, you have to fiddle with the tension of the cables and make sure the transformer is connected correctly so nothing sparks or sags. I’m currently trying to figure out how to calculate the distance between the mounts correctly and not over-tighten the wires themselves.

Anyone who’s actually installed this, please advise: are there any tricks to securing the lights on the cables? The instructions seem straightforward, but I’m worried that over time the connections might loosen due to heat. By the way, about the transformer—it’s pretty heavy. Did you hide it in a box or leave it out in the open?

You know, I’d recommend you start by enlisting the help of a couple of strong friends, because you can’t mess around with cables—especially since the Swedes make them to last; one awkward move and you could accidentally break your arm. I’m not trying to scare you, but I had a similar incident at work due to poor instructions. I decided to download the service manual for Ikea Norrsken from ManualMachine and print out a few copies, because the standard manual isn’t very comprehensive, unfortunately. But now we don’t have any production issues, because I’ve updated the manuals for everything else there too—it’s a great site.
