Any of the powerwashers who want to learn to clean exhaust systems. The best part is it only costs $8,000. But wait they do finance! If you need equipment, they will completely outfit you for $16,500. There's more, but I just don't know where to start. I only wish I thought of it first!

Funny how they make it sound so easy. I quote " every eating establishment is required to have their exhaust system cleaned every 1 to 6 months".
Aside from the few places in this country that have cracked down on it, I bet you could go to 50 restuarants and 35 of them are over a year since the last cleaning and are not planning another cleaning anytime soon, and 5 of them have never been cleaned.
I could take issue with a number of other things that were stated, but maybe thay have discovered a new revolutionary cleaning process. Although from the looks of it they do it the same way most of us do.

I just leave it at that.
 
This is the type of thing that should be banned from this bbs. This simply a rip off class one-just look at everything that is offered and the type of equipment. This is the type of thing that is not needed in the industry-Exhaust cleaning or general PW.

Or better yet not ban them, have a Hall of Shame!

I cant fly to California, but would like to know what is the best way to learn about exhaust cleaning? Do you think it's something that will help in the winter time when things are slow? Thanks!
 
Why can't you fly out to California? No this is not something you can just do when it cold. These food units need to be cleaned year round by competent people who know the ends and outs. The only way to learn how to clean hood is from someone who cleans 12 months out of twelve. Any school that is going to train you in a few days is simply giving you a introduction. When the rubber hits the road each system you see will have its own changes and challenges that will test you resources.

California is a long way from here!I guess I should find someone that does the work and ask them if I could tag-a-long? What if I dont want to depend on someone to take the time to show me how? Is there something out there that you feel that could help? Thanks, Mark

Ok, minus the trailer there is roughly $4500 worth of equipment in the basic package, and that is being generous, save your money. You can buy most if not all of that equipment minus the pressure washer at your local home center.
Get the pressure washer from a local dealer, put it all in the back of your truck, which you would need anyway to pull the trailer.
Delco has a cleaning school for about $2000, now you have spent $6500 and you are at the same place you would be after that school, then keep this BB close by because your first six months or so will be filled with questions.

I guess they can sell what ever for however much as long as there is someone willing to pay for it, and maybe they do provide a quality service for their customers, I'll bet they have a few unhappy graduates though

Mark, are you even insured for hood cleaning? Many companies are dropping this part of their insurance because of the liability. Just because you have liability doesn't mean you are covered for hood work, it's a totally different rider on your policy unless that's all you do like some of these guys on this board. If you aren't insured for it call around and tell the agents you're a brand new company and have no experience in hood cleaning but you want to start cleaning hoods. Then let us know how much they tried to nail you for if they'll even consider insuring you to begin with.
 
David, I thought that was a very generous offer. If I wasn't trying to keep up with some of my work (exterior cleaning) in the winter months, I would book a flight tomorrow.

I did look at Delco's & other boards and noticed the posts, and that they are responsive to strange questions. I have been a visitor to various boards for a long time and only lately have I seen so many questions about 'certification' and 'best schools', etc - all answered by 'Rusty'. Hmmmmmm.
I too reviewed the list of equipment. I could (and have) assembled an equally suitable set of equipment for a few hundred dollars - including a similar anemic powerwasher. In addition, the powerwasher/hotbox combo is unacceptable if you wish to do business with one of the largest franchise organizations in the world (Brinker Intl). Can you imagine the surprise of the 'graduates' when they learn that lack of required equipment (3kpsi/4gpm - by contract!) will result in non-payment of current invoices and capture of past payment! That school is headed for a legal abyss. I do hope the proliferation of 'easy-money' cleaners will hit our area - all with the suggested equipment. The trailer alone will preclude them from cleaning many of our local locations. They will need about 900 feet of hose - you can't even get near the location with a trailer. Maybe you can figure out for me how much pressure will remain with 900 ft of hose 2 stories high?

I posted at Delco and took issue with a couple of things. It's hard to do in this format though, especially for a hunt and peck typist like me.
What restaurants, do Brinker intl own? I don't agree with that particular stipulation, I think the only thing you should need for payment is proof that you cleaned the system to code. No matter how you did it, hell if you paid David Copperfield to come in and snap his fingers, as long as you could show that the grease was removed I think you deserve payment.
It sounds to me like somewhere they may have been burned by a company with substandard cleaning and figured this would stop that problem, but if someone just doesn't do good work for what ever reason having certain equipment will not make his work better if he doesn't want to do it well in the first place.
We have one 3000psi 5 gallons a minute pressure washer, but only use it on really bad jobs, or places where circumstances may require the extra power. On our regular accounts that are cleaned frequently we scale it back to 1500 at 2.1 much less mess to deal with.
 
I went to Delco's board and tried to find his posts but couldn't. I get tired of reading through that crappy site after only a few minutes. I stopped posting over there months ago. You'd think Delco would put up some kind of more advanced site like this one or Dan's. Doesn't make any sense.
 
I did the same thing went over to Delco and could not find the post. Then it came back to me-that is the reason I never go to Delco-among other reasons.

I think that ya'll are missing the point of learning from hoodcleaningschool. Sure our price is $8000 but we are teaching a completely unique way of cleaning hoods and ducts only using 1 person. How many hood cleaners are there that use 2-3 people to clean their hoods. If you have 3 employees clean 3 restaurants a day, as an employer you could have 3 employees and clean 9 restaurants a night. If you learn the Delco way, you will be just like everybody else. Also, our training is 1 on 1 at actual restaurants not just cleaning sterile mock ups. Also, we have a marketing plan in place to guarantee you clients once you complete your training. I have the delco price list right here in front of me, and if you add up the cost of the training, fees, clubs to join, and add in their suggested equipment, then you will find yourself in the $14,000+ category without having paid for a trailer or a van to haul it in. We have had numerous clients look into the Delco way and then compare our way and realize that we don't get dirty and the clients are happy.

We follow all of the NFPA 96 guidelines, we offer certification, and we guarantee you business once you complete your training. We include all of the training manuals necessary.

Not to mention we finance the equipment to anyone who completes our training.

Our training day consist or 2-4 hours of book work each day, followed by 2-4 hours of one on one classroom, then 2-4 hours of cleaning restaurants.

I just checked out this guy's site, it says he's a member of the BBB in central Tennesee, isn't that near Steve Rowlett? Anybody know if he knows this guy or not? I'm just curious if anybody knows anything about him.
