How do I choose a quiet fan for hot nights?

My apartment doesn't have AC and summer nights are brutal. I need a fan for my bedroom that won't sound like a helicopter during Zoom calls or keep me awake. Are tower fans better than box fans for noise levels? What features actually matter for sleep, and what brands have held up for you?

I tried a cheap tower fan and it lasted one season before the motor started clicking. Now I use a simple box fan in the window during evenings and switch to a pedestal fan at night. The box fan pulls in cooler air, and the pedestal oscillates without rattling. Both were under $30.

My brother uses a high-velocity floor fan for his garage gym, but that's too loud for sleeping. I found a mid-range oscillating model with a night mode that dims the lights and slows the blades. It survived two summers so far. Before buying, I compared options and checked https://aerospeed-fans.pissedconsumer.com/review.html to see how various brands hold up over time. The sleep timer is my favorite feature.
