Hydro Tek Check!

I’m seriously considering the following machine:

SC32007KQ skid: 25hp Kohler, 3200psi, 6.3gpm, 2500 watt 115v generator, 250 degree burner, Cat pump, K-7 unloader, 7.5 gal gas tank, 18gal fuel tank (salesman was telling me that the tanks were designed to run out of juice at about the same time).

Has anybody had any experience with this particular machine, Good OR Bad? If so, please post it! How about Hrdro Tek (other than this machine)? Would you buy another one?

Thats a great machine, that 25 horse kohlor i have heard runs like a champ. cat pumps are great pumps as long as you dont need to repair them.

your machine is large enough that you wont need to worry about anything. it will wash what ever you want.

whats the reatail rpice and i can tell you where the breaking point is for the dealer. give me full retail if you want my formula.

Ron,

Thanks for the response.

I don't think many people have had much experience with Hydro-Tek equipment. Same post on three boards indicates that few people have ever heard about them or have an opinion of them and the post has gotten a fairly good number of views.

As far as the price, what do you think would be a fair price?

PNFreeman, I have a Hydro Tek machine with a 16 hp Vanguard and a pump that says Hydro Tek ( Iam sure it is an AR pump, Hydoo Tek doesn't make pumps) and it is a good machine. Different manufactures make machines with the same pumps, burners and engines so the main difference is frame, fuel tanks features and price. If you do not have a lot of experence with this type of equiptment I would take the quality of the dealer into consideration when you make your purchase. Service means a lot.

I would insist on both tanks being 18 gallons. Keep this in mind, you only have the use of about 5 gallons out of the 7 1/2, the rest stays in the tank.

Also I don't buy that they are made to run out of fuel at the same time, that is a sales pitch, both mine tanks are 18 gallons and I pretty much run low on both, sure I use more diesel then gas but no way could I run 18 gallons of diesel and 5 or 7 1/2 of gas and run all day.

A few brands offer 18 gallons for both, ALkota/All American for one does.

As far as their machine, shop around if you must by that brand, prices are NOT created equal, prices are what they can get from you.

Remember the larger the supplier the better the price, the small local guy needs more $$$ to keep running.

If you are going to buy that system go buy some 5 gallon cans for extra fuel as you will need it.

(I personally would not buy Hydro Tek, my reasons have been started before, nothing wrong with the machine though.)

Does the Wiz or Mark sell Hydrotechs???? where are they at when a guy like Paul wants equipment.

Good luck, I know your serious about this because you almost got that used one a few weeks back.

I'm going to post something in the distributor section.

Dont buy anything until you have at least posted the price. Ok paul

Why don't you consider renting a machine from the local rental agent or PW dealer. That way you'll be able to figure out what YOU like and dislike. I could never figure out-why someone thinking about getting started would want to plunk several grand down on something they rarely know anything about. The rental place will even show you how to operate it. If it breaks down you return it for another and you pass the rental cost along to your account. Starting out you never need the machine more than a couple of hours a day. Why tie up all your cash? If you don't like the business - you haven't lost anything. Where do you think all the used instruments are coming from ?

Indiana Jones,

I appreciate your input and you make some excellent points.

All I can say is, if I ever hired a guy to wash my house and he showed up with a rental unit, I'd send him packing in a heartbeat.

As far as the investment money, this is pretty low risk compared to buying the funkiest house in a working class neighborhood, rehabbing it, and hoping that I can sell it for a profit.

Thanks again for the ideas.

What I'm saying is many guys go into business hot-to-trot - buy the biggest, baddest powerwasher. Then they go out looking for jobs to do. When you purchase your machine - it is going to sit around idle while you try to figure it out. The customer doesn't give a darn what kind of machine you have. The truth of the matter is you can wash a house with a bucket, brush and hose end sprayer. The machine is just the tool that makes it easier to do the job. Too many contractors get hung up on their machine-it's like a manhood thing. You probably wouldn't consider cleaning windows, yet it takes more skill to do than to wash a house. When people see your powerwasher gleaming all new - don't for one second think they are going to come rushing outdoors waving cash in hand to see when you can do their place. My point is, if you rent from a tool place or dealer- you can develop the skill by doing some jobs and see if this is really what you want. Painters rent all the time prior to painting the outside of a house. The customer just wants the job done right not what your powerwasher looks like. Honest!

I would have to agree with Indiana about the equiptment, make sure your truck is clean and be dressed nice, who cares if it's a rental or a 20k unit as long as you do a great job and give it 100%

I run a hydro tek SC34005K 3400PSI 4.6 GPM unit for the last 4 months now and love it. The gas will run out before the diesel but it also depends on a few factors. The unit runs a long time on that 7-1/2 gallons. I ran a hotsy unit before this (very old) and had used a landa unit for 4 years back when I did this about 11 years ago. Both were good units but I will take the Hydro Tek and the Koehler engine anyday. Yes it runs a Cat Pump and yes I would keep it that way. This is just a personal preference and it is not that expensive to have serviced (in my area). The unit is put together well, looks impressive, easy maintenance etc.

Just my $.02

Paul, I am sure you considered the water supply issue. At over 6 gpm you will definitely be operating from a water tank supply on a routine basis. B2
