Hello, I am new to the business and I plan on doing mainly house washing. I have bought some limonene from e-spec and I was just curious to know how this chemical has worked for other people. I have read other posts about this topic and know about the difficulty with windows. I haven't seen any information about dwell time or what all surfaces people use it for. Any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks

tell me how you get the chem from bucket to surface?
I use limonlene for house washing,truck degreaseing,tire marks on cement,diesel fuel splashes,truck pre-soak,and chewing gum ghost remover, gutter cleaner,ect...
I have use it at full strangth and ive used it in my house wash mix.
Steve rowlett has just came out with a new citric based house wash[limonlene] that im going to be testing out thursday.
It's good for degreasing and carbon type stains.
 
Ron, I have a downstream injector that draws 10%. I have a
4 gpm/3000 psi machine and will be using a size 20/ 15 degree
soap nozzle to apply the limonene. What do you mix the limonene with for your house washing mix? I don't really want
to mix my own chemicals at first, which is why I bought the limonene, however I do realize that I might have to add some bleach/chlorine to it, to take care of mildew and mold. Through
my searches and readings, I have not been able to find out anything about dwell time for the limonene. I also read that adding some cascade will help with the window problem. thanks

scoons your chem is what dose the real cleaning. At a 10% draw rate you cant get enuff chem on the house without deluiting it too much. Also for a downstreamer to work, you need to use a large tip to get a draw. This prevents you from shooting your chem very far.
Even if money is tight you should use the search feature of this bbs[site] and type in X-JET.
There is no tool at any price that i have found that can make house washing as easy and profitable.
If you did downstream bleach [6% sodium hydroxide-SH]
AND USED ALL BLEACH IN A PAIL IT WOULD ONLY BE 1% BY THE TIME IT GETS TO THE SURFACE. That wont help much.
If an x-jet is not in your plans then maybe a shr-flo 12 volt pump and hand cart would be in order but it will cost you the same in the end.
They make higher rate downstream injectors also, 20%.
DONT LET ANY CHEM DRY ON ANY SURFACE. That is where the problems are.

Ron, through the reading I've done, adding chlorine at 12% sodium hyperchlorite will work just fine with my downstream injector. Also, the size 20/15 degree tip should draw the chemical on my 4 gpm/3000 psi machine, according to another
poster who has used this method instead of the x-jet for a while.
That person uses a downstream injector which draws 12% and uses chlorine instead of bleach. From the reading I've done, I will get the same amount(or very close to it) of soduim hyperchlorite on the surface if I use chlorine and my downstream injector, as guys do when using bleach and the x-jet and I will not have to drag a bucket around with me. My concern with limonene is dwell time, which I haven't been able to find any information on.
I've done searches on this board as well as others and I have
not had any luck with this subject. Any help on dwell time would
be appreciated. thanks
 
I use Limonene and it has worked good for me. I am just very careful with the windows. It works pretty good on gutters and it leaves the house looking better then with dawn and bleach. It doesn't leave it all dull looking. I use an x-jet to apply it. I just let it dwell for about 5 minutes maybe less. I use chlorine when there is heavy mold.

2 things.
one dwell time is directly related to how hot the temp is outside.
Second is, your downsteamer is directly related to the langth of pressure line your useing and the diameter of it.
You prob. wont get the same draw at 150 ft of hose as you do a 100. At 200 forget about it.
just some things to keep in your head.
Also most downstreamer are tempermental.
Harold Brantly is real good on info to do this kind of stuff.
Downstreaming instead of x-jeting.
 
Ron, I will most likely only be using 100' of hose to start out, so I guess I should be ok.
I have read Harold Brantly's post on the downstream injector
vs x-jet and this is where I am hoping I will be ok using a
size 20/15 degee nozzle. Harold stated in his post that this
size/degee nozzle will throw the chemical 2 stories when using
a 4 gpm/3000psi machine. If I find that my machine is not
working well using this method, I will most likely buy the x-jet
setup. Thanks for the great info. If it weren't for the
tremendous wealth of information I've found on this and other
boards, I would be very lost. Thanks again.

equipment is mounted and not portable then 100 ft will not be enuff line.
Tell me more about your rig.
Also all limonlene is not equal.
What brand are you useing? Or what co. are you getting it from?
With that tip your talking about, if you have homes that are close together how are you going to apply your chem when you can only stand back 6 ft?
x-jet has a close range tip. It fans the chem out.
just trying to make you think a little more.
If you needed to use the limonlene as a degreaser you would need a pump up sprayer or shr-flo pump set up. Not if you had a x-jet. Limonlene downstreamed is to weak to degrease a motor or dumpster pad.
10% for most chems is not enuff.
Soaps yes, your house wash, prob.
There are better chems for house washing then limonlene. Ask Steve Rowlett;)
 
Ron, the equipment I will be using is a portable dynablast coldwater 4gpm/3000 psi machine. I should only have to
move the machine 1 time when doing a house, and maybe
not at all depending on the size and location of the faucet.
I bought the limolene from envirospec and read that it was
made to be used with a downstream injector, so I wasn't
worried about the strength of it, until I read your last post;
I hope it will be strong enough, if not I may just use it for
gutters, as I have heard it works really well for that purpose.
I do have a size 30/25 degree chemical nozzle that came
with the machine, that should be ok for close area applications(I think). I am just starting out, so obviously any ideas for
a better house chemical is always welcomed and appreciated. I have checked out
Steve Rowlett's website before, however after your post I
will look a little closer at what he has available. Again thanks
for the info. and help.
 
I spilled it on somebodies lawn and it killed grass.E -spec says it wont kill plants,but darn it killed grass,something bleach had never done for me,then worry about the windows

You can get overspray on other side of the house without knowing it,there goes your windows

I tested some limonene a couple of weeks ago on one side of a house - before this thread. Now you guys have me worried! My garage smells good though!
