well it seemed to work since he has gotten calls already from people just to say hi because they saw the site and some people ended up ordering from him. I thought it would be a way to keep him and his biz in peoples thoughts more often. anything to give you an advantage,

I'd say this thread alone will generate some calls for him.............

Like Jon says, we all have some sort of obstacle to deal with in life. It all comes down to how hard you want to try to get past your obstacles.

Has anyone seen the movie "Door to Door"? THAT was an inspiring movie...I mean, if a man can accomplish what he did in life with the obstacles he had to deal with, who the heck am I to complain? Sometimes I wish I didn't have to wear contacts, or that I could hear better (I've lost about 1/2 my hearing in one ear due to a diving injury years ago)...but when I look at how hard some folks have it, I really have nothing to complain about. I could be in a wheelchair or be missing a limb....

I agree with Mike H. initial comments. I have a slight speech impediment - I could not speak clearly until age 6 and was in speech therapy until age 15. I do not use it as a crutch but as fuel in my fire.

When I read the top 10 list, it was sad to me. Even if Bob doesn't mind it - its wrong and presents an aweful public image. Not everyone that visits the web site will know the story behing it. What will be the customers perception of that web site and business.

ps. Individuals with speech impediments find it easier to laugh than cry. Meaning this, I know from experience that a speech impediment is a day to day struggle and often brings embarrasement and a feeling of sadness.

Although a person may not mind to be poked fun at, its very cruel to do so. A speech impediment is something that a person has deal with their whole life and its not fun.

My 2 cents - and I guaranteed that I earn the right to express my opinion.

If Bob not offended, thats great - I am.

this is hysterical, Bob has a speech impediment and he is poking fun at himself, not anyone else. He doesn't make reference to anyone besides himself. Sounds like someone needs a pitty party. If you have a speech impediment, who cares, do I feel sorry you do, yes I do, but I won't make it an issue, that's what I mean by who cares. I think after a certain age we become adults, I think the Eagles said it best, get over it. I am sorry if anyone is offended, but such is life.

I don't need a pitty party. My speech impediment has not held me back, just the opposite, it has driven me - I've achieve more than I've ever imagine.

Customer Perception, whether right or wrong means everything.
No need to say more, your comments speaks loudly.

No hard feeling, just given you my opinion. After all, its just a joke, I'm sure no one will be offended, if so, they can choose not to purchase your services or product.

If we can't laugh at ourselves-where are we going with this-no blonde jokes please.

Everyday, someone is offended about one thing or another. 450 lbs male sues McD for not hiring him-isn't it obvious he can't work in the space that McD offers. This world is about ready to go over the edge.

i have seen a guy go to speach class and get rid of 99% of his stuttering.
''stuttering JOHN '' of the howard stern radio show.
he is now a DJ.
I also know that they can give hearing to def people but if a def person goe's for the operation they are shunned by the other def.
I have partial loss of hearing and would jump at the chance to fix it.
My prob is it's not in the ear. It's in the wireing to my brain.
What's left of it. lol

You are absolutely right - Through speech therapy, I have improve trememdously. I speak at seminars, professional organizations, etc and have no problem. If a person listen real close, they could pick up on some words that I may slur a little.

I'm in the process of teaching a business marketing class here at the University - we are currently covering Business Environment vs Customer Perception. Last night, as a homework assignment, my students are going to visit the web site and write a one page essay on Customer Perception. I did not give my views or even mention the top 10 list - just simply inform the students to visit the site and write the essay.

So not only can we laugh, but we can learn also.

For the record - I'm offended, but thats due to my own experiences. I know how people with speech impediments or other disabilities feel, when they read something like that. Not all will, but the majority will. As we have seen - there are people on this board with hearing, speech, etc problems. Bottom line - if your business projects a certain image and someone or a group is offened, who care, so what - they will purchase your services and products or they will not - who cares.

Sorry to get on the soap box - I have a pitty party to go to. haha
You just never know who will be at that party.

Statistics shows that 67% of Americans have some sort of disability - 31% have a hearing or speech problem to some degree - Over 100,000,000 Americans have a speech problem.

Time to party. haha

That implant you speak of is called a cocklear or cockear implant and to qualify you must have a very high percentage of loss, I am not sure of just how much but I think close to 90% hearing lost.

I know of no one shunned because they have had them, they work like hearing aids but are inside the head rather then stuck in the ear.

I personally would not have it done if I did qualify, reason is there is no middle road, it either helps or you lose all hearing.

I would much rather keep what I have then be totally deaf, I know my hearing never gets better or worst, has been the same since my first hearing test.

I have had many hearing aids over the years but stopped buying and using them around 1980, they do nothing for me, only let others see I wear one so I must be deaf. It is my nerves that are dead, no aid, no inplant, no operation can bring them alive and they have yet to try transplants like they do hearts, livers, kidneys and other body organs.

And again I would not want to chance that either, it works or it does not, if not I would be totally deaf, no thanks, at least I can hear somethings.

Now what does a bird, string instrument, siren and other high pitch things sound like? Oh wait, I hear sirens when close, but I see that flashing red lights before you hear it.

Jon

Jon,
If you would quit speeding around town you wouldn't continually hear those sirens nor see those flashing red lights.

Jon:

I'm with you on not taking the chance of losing all hearing, or vision. I've lost about 1/2 of the hearing in one ear, maybe more, and I'm perfectly happy to just say "What's that?" or "Come again" when someone says something I can't hear.

This is also the reason I have no plans to try any of the vision correcting surgeries...I have terrible vision without contacts or glasses, but they work just fine. There's a small chance with those surgeries that your vision will be further damaged, or that you will have problems with night vision and other things. I'm not willing to chance being that 1 or 2 percent of people who have further, permanently damaged vision.

I'm just fine the way I am.

for the record, when I mentioned the web page and mentioned to Bob I thought it would be a good marketing idea to put up the list on his page, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I only meant for the list to get people talking about Bob and his business and to keep the business in peoples heads.
Riddle me this batman, after all the hits on his site, all the talk about his site, a class assignment on his site all because I made a suggestion, who is the marketing genius now, lol.
Tim, I didn't mean anything against you or anyone else on here. I don't think any better or any worse if you have any type of disability. I do however feel bad that you or anyone else has to live with that problem but it seems like you are doing pretty good dispite it all. I wish no one had to ever deal with a problem like that but I don't make the rules so keep on keeping on.

Mike

No harm - water under the bridge. I give you credit, you are a marketing wiz.

Me too.

Mr. Cappa,

You offend me my friends with the ORGANIZATION will deal with you out of the Windy City!

Do not forget that now. Bob will make the call for me since he sounds like one of them:)

happy Birthday Bob!!
This is Stuttering Bob. I am not sure if you guys understand. I do actually stutter and have my whole life. I am a second generation pressure cleaner and have cleaned just about everything. I put that on my web site because I have the hardest time on the phone. I think it will set customers at ease that have never called me and don't know me and also set me at ease. You guys have know idea what it is like to have this impedement. At times when I answer the phone I block and it takes me up to five seconds to get a word out. Laughter is the best medicine. I did not do this for advertising gain. When people know I stutter it makes my life a lot easier. Take this for what it's worth.
