I have watched the 4 GPM - 4000 PSI - 13 HP marketing by manufacturers for years.
10 years ago there was only one or two companies trying to convince everyone that this is possible. Now I see it advertised in the box stores and even in the professional marketplace.
My reaction? Impossible! You can't get 4 GPM @ 4000 PSI out of a 13 and if you do - that 13 won't last but a few hours.
GPM X PSI divided by 1100. You do the math and don't fall for what people are trying to shove down your throat! For my money - when people try to do this to me - I look elsewhere to spend my money. If mis-information such as this is so important for them to sell product then what else are they trying to do.
Next - GEAR BOXES. Over the years we have probably manufactured with more gear boxes than anyone. We all have preferences and that is good. Personally - I LOVE GEAR BOXES! Since the early 80's I can only remember 2 failures and many of the units we build back then are still running today - at least the gear box is. The rest of the machine has been replaced time and time again.
So - the next time someone tell you that gear boxes are bad - chances are they are just passing on a bit of information that has been passed on to them. Pressure washers run much more efficiently with gear boxes.
Think of it this way. How long have you been driving? A gear box is nothing more than a gear similar to the one in the rear end of your car. Go to any junk yard and pick through the piles and the only thing you can trust as being in decent working order is the 'rear-end' gear - regardless of how old the junk is. And junk yards sell very few - if any - v-belts off of old 'clunkers.'
So - bottom line - it is personal preference that should drive your decision and hopefully not driven by mis-information.
