My Ongoing Problem With Sodium Hydroxide Burn.

I was on a job cleaning a Burger King last Early November. I was about 50 miles out when I noticed Ileft my boots at home when I cleaned them. It was late night and no walmart to get some.Instead of wasting time I cleaned anyhow using ADD from ACR Products on some bad grease behind the dumpster. Being type 2 Diabetic I am supposed to be careful. I apparently got some on my shoes which were regular sports shoes. It soaked into the shoe andf onto my foot. 10 hours later at home I noticed big time.I have had a time to deal with this. It was on both feet, but the other has healed. This one has been a booger though. I was at the hosp last month for 4 days because of a bacterial infection I have now as well. Cellulitis. Hope I do not go see these soon cause of it.

I hear prostetics have come a long way. lol sorry I could not resist. I spilled some on my boot while transfering the mix, burned the side of my leg pretty good where the boot touched my leg. I rinsed my boots like 4 times but i could still feel some burn a few days later so I had to toss them in the trash. sh is some nasty stuff!

I would take the msds with you and go see another doctor and get a second opinion, sometimes doctors don't want to try to cure too much at a time.

Cautic burns take a loooonnng time to heal. That being on your foot and staying damp from wearing sock will take longer.See if your doc will prescribe some silverdine keep it as dry as you can.If you are still wearing the shoes.....STOP, toss them in the trash.
I have more scars on my legs, arms and hands from caustic burn than I can count.None have ever healed quickly

My brother had some strong mix drop on the laces of his water resistant shoes...it sat on his sock on the top of his foot for about 6 hours. We called the wound his third eye! Scar was visible for at least 2 years. He washed in flip flops for years after because he could quickly rinse his feet. Just recently he started riding a motorcycle and decided he needed proper shoes.

The divot in the top of my foot has finally faded and looks somewhat normal after 10 years.

I always use a pair of hip waders when I am messing with strong chemicals. Seems to work good for me.

Quote from vince Wood "I always leave my boots in a toolbox of my truck. "

If I did that, being up North with my redneck accent would really get me some looks.

"This here how we do it down South yaknow"

I just use the rubber boots from Academy Sports or from Home Depot in the concrete section. I have 2 pair on the trailer at all times.

I have never had a pair start leaking from the top, usually the soles wear down and start leaking but at that time I switch to a new pair or use the other pair but always have 2 pair on the trailer at all times, just in case.

I also have 2 pair for the helper, just in case.

Caustic will eat through leather and other fabrics in case some of you guys don't know this, rubber boots always better to use around caustics and other high ph chemicals.

Anyone that uses high PH chems should think about carrying a neutralizing powder with them. This can be found in many safety Catalogs. It won't help long term exposure but will help neutralize short term exposure.

Great idea and I do, but when you have neuropathy from type 2 like I do as hard as it is to believe I did not even feel it. Still does not hurt, just looks bad.
