i have a hotsy 1260 it only has 80 hours on it but it sat for 2 years, it was smoking really black, people told me to drop the burner and clean or replace the tip i took it down and sprayed some cleaner on the tip and blew it out with air, i put it baack on and now flames shoot out the top of the stack. what should i do??? also the pressure dropped to only 1500 psi it was 3000 before but i didnt touch the pump , please help

Tuff one. When a machine sits for a long time the deisel will go bad. First drain the tank and put fresh diesel in it. Or you can get some conditioner at any truck shop. Black smoke means not enough air. Look for a rats nest or leaves ect, in the burner The valves in the pump will stick from the minerals in the water. This will cause your hose to pulsate and your pressure to drop. See the 6 brass caps? There are 3 on the top of the pump head and 3 on the front bottom portion of the head. Hotsy uses an Allen that is 9/16. Remove the caps and you will find the check valves in there. Remove them clean them and put them back in. Make sure the o-rings are still good before you put them back in. Put the caps back on and try it again.

burner

i got the pressure problem fixed, and the flsmes stopped but it is billowing black smoke out the top still i chsnged the nozzle and cleaned the whole burner, could it possibly be the fuel pump strainer thats all i didnt clean yet?? will kerosene work better?

Karosene is not as good it does not atomize as well. Sounds like you have a soot problem or an air flow problem in the burner. Check the output side of the coils where the flame comes out for soot buildup. It is black like ashes but darker. It will plug up the air passage in the coils. You can use air to blow it out or you could stick the end of the wand in there (with the burner shut off of coarse) and wash it out. Check out the insullation inside of the burner, sometimes it will fall down over the fuel nozzle assembly.
