Need help with "Obstacle".

Hello Everyone,

I have some concrete to clean on the side of a house and at the back of the house. In the middle of the sidewalk there is a huge Air Conditioner that blocks the sidewalk and there is only a few inches clearance around it. There is a 6' wooden privacy fence on the side of it running the length of the property isolating the property from the vacant lot. I need a way to get to the back yard by either crossing over the Air Conditioner or the fence to do the job as the people will not be home and the only other way is through their home. Please let me know if you have any ideas to do this safely. I was thinking about the "Little Giant" ladder to go over the fence but I do not have one and the shop that can get them will have to order it and it will be weeks. Thanks for any help.

if it were me i think i would take the esiest route. if you can get over the fince via the air conditioner then i would be as careful as possible walk on the outer edge of the unit. put a ladder on the other side to make it as easy as possible to continue the job...

I forgot to mention that the Air Conditioner is about 4 1/2 feet tall. I was thinking of building scaffold around it but not enough room.

Back your truck up to the fence, lean a 6' foot step ladder against the inside of the fence. Stand on your truck bed sides and step over onto the ladder.

Depending on how the fence is built, you could also carefully remove three planks to gain entry. The planks can easily be nailed back.

You could also use an extension ladder to get onto the roof. Pull the ladder up and carry it to the side you want to go down. WATCH out for the incoming power service lines though.

Ask the homeowners if these methods are ok first though.

I personaly would stay off the air conditioner.

I agree with byoungsr, depending on the type of fence, simply remove a few planks of fencing or even an entire panel. If it is a simple picket fence, it will give you plenty of access and can easily be reinstalled when you're finished with the job.
