Because so many newcomers have asked me for a simple "quick and dirty" mix to clean shingle roofs, here it is.
This mix is for 100 gallons total.
You need 68 gallons of water
30 gallons Liquid Sodium Hypochlorite `12.5%
1 - 44 ounce Bottle Original Scent Liquid Gain Dishsoap.
Up to 3 - 44 ounce bottles of Gain may be added for additional cling on steep shingle roofs, and/or help in masking the Chlorine Smell.

sweet booked my first roof of the season.
 
Is there a litmus test for chlorine. ..some days our juice comes out the tap hot and some days not so much. .are there easily available and easy to use test kits for chlorine percentages. I see the test kits for pool water but will that be the same thing? I thought they were just testing ph only. For me its easy to tell if the mix is correct by smell amd feel..but if Im not mixing Id like something a monkey could do to figure out if they did it right. Figure Chris or Ac will know if there is such a thing
 
I don't know about testing, but on the days when I don't have time to get sH from the chem supplier, I have to cheat and go to pool supply. They fill my drums from a large, almost transparent plastic holding unit (first mistake), probably 5000g. When the sH level in that container is way low, I wait & come back after the truck fills it back up again. If you must buy from a pool supply or pool maintenance company, go to the biggest outfit in the region; it would follow that they service the most pools, therefore they would be using the most sH, so their bleach is replenished more often. The guy at chem store told me heat, sunlight & time are biggest factors in hot becoming warm. I'd be interested to hear some suggestions, as well.
 
What is the best mix for a metal roof? I have a 9000sq ft barn roof that they want cleaned... How quick to rinse ?
 
SH, roof snot and water. Mix ratio depends on how dirty it is. Start weak and bump up. I rinse before it has time to dry. Do small sections at a time.
