Maybe instead of roof algae removal you could put roof stain removal.

Chris, good idea. Most people dont know that it is algae.

Tegrey, Most people just driving by wouldnt be able to read it anyways, so we're getting some window and truck stickers made also.

Thanks for the input guys.

Scott,
Very Nice. I believe there is too much info for a moving vehicle though. Sitting still would be great.

Thanks Tegrey. My wife actually does our web design. She told me to tell you thanks!! We use Godaddy and they have good prices, and excellent design tools. Good luck.

Scott,
Great Web Site. We are getting a new one bult now. Hope it is as professional as yours!

Scott,
Is that your wife on your web site? My wife runs our painting crew. It is funny how they (customers, vendors, etc,) Speak to her like she does the bookeeping. LOL She knows more about painting then most & probably better than most painters! LOL Thank You.

Yep, thats her. She's my "ground guy", watering plants, fixing pumps, mixing chems, etc...which are just as or more important than the cleaning itself! I read somewhere that people trust women more, so I let her talk to alot of customers. Not sure if it's true, but it sure as hell can't hurt! We are also, about to expand into pool maintenance within the next year, and she is going to run that. Plus she does all of our bookkeeping, website design, taxes, and pretty much everything but the actually cleaning!...lol...id be pretty lost here without her...lol

Hi Scott, I like the trailer sign. I would agree with roof stain removal instead of algeae.

I noticed on your site you have prices right there. How do you feel that helps/hinders you?

Thanks

Don

Im actually not sure if it helps or not. I never have anyone say "I picked you because you have prices right there". however, when im looking for services, it is always nice when it is in black and white. So I figured it couldn't hurt. But I did make sure to put "prices may vary due to size....". because of course im not going to do a 4000 square foot house for the same price a s a 1500 sqft house.

I was looking at your site and what I would do, is at least tell them what you charge per sqft so that they can compare to other companies when they're shopping around. let me know if you have any other questions.

Scott

Thanks Scott,

I talk to some of the guys on the boards, mostly Barry M from midwest prowash. We always talk about pricing like you have on your website.

I have min. pricing on my jobs, but I just dont advertise it on my site. Someone calls for a job I tell them my min price is $389, based on that do they want a free roof cleaning evaluation? Once I get out there, I just show a portfolio and talk about our process.

I got all my roof bids last year except for one.

Wow, my minimum is $299, and thats for partials or small houses. Your way may work much better because I dont get all of my bids. But I give about 2-4/ day over the phone, and usually convert 1-3 of them.

I dont know how big St. Louis is, but Houston is huge. I have to drive 60-70 miles for a job sometimes and still be inside houston. So I cant go to every customers house for an evaluation, or I would end up spending more on gas than I make! lol...Let me know how you do the first half of this year and maybe ill look at switching.

Scott, I also keep in mind that in 3-5 years every tom dick and harry will be doing this. So I am trying to make as much as I can now before the market gets saturated.

Agreed. But im looking at this business on a much larger scale. Take a look at ABC pest pool and Lawn (not sure if you've heard of them). The pool maintenance, lawn and pest control are all saturated, but he came out of no where and is now huge. Im not looking to be on roofs only forever. Next summer we're branching into pools, and ive got my sights on a couple of other things. here in Houston, there are only a few reputable companies doing roofs right now, so if we come in early, advertise and do the best job out there, we could easily dominate for the long haul. (like ABC). :)

Scott,
Your correct in saying that you'd be lost withour her. I know and you know the value of having different people in our business. My wife is the back bone of our company. I usually say I put 5 gallons of paint on for her quart. However, hers is perfect! LOL Many people do trust a women more than men, however many feel my wife doesn't know what she is talking about because she's a women! LOL Right out of the 60's. Ya can't please them all.
As far as advertising our prices, we don't, because we change them as needed. Our cost are checked monthly and may vary a dollar or two. With gas going up and down, that is another variable to contend with. I understand why you need to do alot of phone work, driving 60 miles for an estimate is crazy, but necessary. Thank You.

Yea your telling me its crazy. Houston traffic is terrible, and my truck gets about 12-15 miles per gallon, depending if im pulling a trailer. So to drive 60 miles for the customer to say "oh, well, I didnt realize it was so expensive." Would be rediculus! lol

Finally got my sign for the trailer after 3 weeks! only 180 bucks. what do ya think?
