I am still a bit new to this industry, but where i live i see that the potential for profit in the fields of painting prep, house washing and flat work is great. I have a few questions that I would appreciate any input on please:
First : certification - How important is it and is there any program that you might recomend above the others?
Second : What are the basic pieces of equipment needed to get started? I am planning to purchase a surface cleaner, a more powerful pressure washer (2700- 3000 psi.)
and water tank, along with a water pump, but what other equipment would you recommend? My focus will be primarily on the residential aspect of the business with an aim to expand in the future( perhaps fleetwashing).
Finally : Chemicals - which are the" must have" for mold/mildew removal , house washing, new construction, and oil/grease removal?

Welcome to the board! You will find if you split your questions up into different threads, or topics, you will get much more detailed answers to each one.

If you are doing mostly residential, then you will not need a hot water washer. If you do commercial flatwork, you will need hot water..............hot water is also helpful for fleetwashing at times.

Try not to focus on the psi as much as gallons per minute. Buy no less then 4 gpm's Ideally around 5 or 5.5 gpms.

When you have a washer with a water tank you start talking about some serious weight...........so, what do you intend to haul it around with? Water weights about 8.34 pounds per gallon...........so, a 225 gallon water tank weighs about 1800 pounds plus the weight of the tank itself. You just need to think things through with your vehicles when you start talking about hauling water.

If you plan on doing house washing, I would recommend an x-jet nozzle ( www.xterior.com ) and maybe an extension wand ( www.extendawand.com ) .

Put the chemical question in another post............also, spend some time using the search function..........you will learn alot about chemicals there.

thanks

Thanks alot for the advice Mike - will do

If you buy a belt driven machine there should be no need for a water pump. A belt dirve will suck water, along with the head pressure from the tank you should be fine. Direct drive is another story.
