Old Dog, New Tricks—And Timeless Truths

Yeah, I’m old. It came up today, and you know what? I’m owning it.

To the younger crowd reading this: I get it. I was once you—thinking the “old dogs” didn’t know what they were talking about. And in some cases, you’re not wrong. But here’s the truth—this service industry we’re all grinding in? It’s still in diapers.

It didn’t even start gaining steam until the ’80s. It wasn’t until the late ’90s and early 2000s that it really took off. That means we’re only three or four decades into this game. We’re all still learning—veterans included.

Yes, technology’s exploded. Tools, apps, automation—there’s a shiny new thing every week. But keeping up with that? I’ve always done it. No problem there.

But here’s where experience hits different: relationships.

No app, no platform, no piece of tech will ever replace genuine human connection. Shaking a hand. Looking someone in the eye. Showing up, doing the work, earning trust. That’s business. That’s real.

Some things never go out of style—and that’s one of them.
