paint removing from concrete

Here are the stats,

appox. 800 sq. ft. of concrete painted several times over the years and I do mean over the years with layers of paint, I counted 5 layers, blue, white, another shade of blue and what might be faded yellow.

I tried two things, one is a sealer striper which really needs a few hours of dwell time so could not really see much results with it, the other was Jasco paint remover, it would cut off one layer at a time (making this an all day job) but using a scraper did nothing, on hands and knees with putty knife would work.

I then pressure washed it, 0° and turbo would not do much, 15° did a good job removing the paint.

Could possibly just just the PWer without any stripper but I do believe the stripper helped.

Now the question, what might cut though all that paint faster?

One other thing you need to know, by 8 AM it is hot with the sun burning down on the concrete so that pretty much spoils the Jasco from doing the job, has to be cool.

if you need to allow your stripper to dwell, you may want to do this job at night, might want to try the "aircraft stripper" available in gallon container at your local home depot,we use this stuff to remove the anodized clear coating on aluminum frames prior to polishing,

it goes without saying dont get this stuff on anything you dont want to replace

Jon,I use a stripper on the decks that I do,and it says it takes off layers of paint.I have never used it for that but does work well on deck staines. The only thing is, I think you have to buy it at 30lbs. a tub.I dont know how often you run into this problem but 30lbs. might be a little much for what you come across. If you want more info on the HD-80 stripper. Go to www.deckguide.com.

Forget the chemical strippers, not only is it a pain in the butt, you have hazardous waste to legally dispose of. I would sub this out to a guy with a shot blaster and let him do it. Safer, faster, easier and cleaner.

zip

Zippo I agree with you however in this case there would be no runoff, customer has clarifier and catch basin for all water on his property.

Also believe it or not a contractor told him to have a pressure washer do the job.

So everyone seems to pass the buck on it, I did a demo today and aside from the layers and layers of paint it would be a breeze.

If I could sub it out I would but to whom, a painter? they don't normally strip concrete, a contractor after one passed it off to pressure washers? a water blaster who has 10-12,000 PSI and would simply blast the concrete away?

Next suggestion?

Jon

Well, if you were recommended, or a pressure washer was recommended, Why don't you just do the job. either do it time and materials, or flat rate. I would bet that once you get into the job, that you will find that it is really not that bad.
